Hi All,
The debate on HR practices of Army and Corporate world have been discussed over years. Arguments by far have remained unchanged. I have been on the Army side for long, but with a difference. I have loved corporate practices and have spent a considerable time to deeply understand each.
I have been collecting thoughts of eminent people, HR professionals and any person with experience and interest. I am of firm opinion that a fine blend of the HR practices of both sides will make an interesting reading.
May I request you to be bold, frank and open to express your views.
Best Wishes and Regards

I totally disagree with you Col Pande. Observing Corporate culture from outside and being in the system are totally different ball game altogether. The diversity in the corporate is unbeatable and the mindset also. Corporates can be banking, software, finance, insurance and many more and people working in that system are well aware of the complexities of their domain and a person coming from different background will have to struggle a lot to understand the needs and culture of these professionals. Unlike armymen, the corporate workers are intellectual lot and don't like extra ordinary disciplines of army people. Be ready to face immense resistance and if you try to get your things done in your way then be prepared to be fired. I have seen 80% of army men being fired from corporate as they look good in resume but fail miserably in corporates. I have been dealing with corporate HR system for last 31 years and I'm telling you that most armymen's rapport is on stake when they are in corporate because you need to adapt heavily and you've never been groomed like that. Adapting to climate is different and adapting to deal with intellectual breed is different. One day you'll feel that you've learnt enough but the next day something new will come up and you'll remain in oblivion.

Well, I tend to disagree with you, Venket. Have you seen the placement results of the first two batches of Army officers from IIMs after completing their Management Programs? Army teaches some great HR skills which are still valued in the Corporate environment, namely leadership, Motivation, Training and Development, Competency Mapping, Staffing and Selection, Employee Relations, Discipline, HR Policies etc.
Agreed, not all the people who leave the Army make a mark, but that percentile is everywhere.
In my personal opinion, Army men will score much above anyone else in their commitment, ability to produce results under pressure, and hanle mutiple situations of varying magnitude, from a vehicle breakdown to a bomb blast!
