Which is best for distance learning MBA?

Sikkim Manipal University (SMU)

Amity University

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)

AIMA (All India Management Association)

The first two gives MBA degree and last two gives PGDM. Except first one, none others assure placement assistance. SMU claims to have tie up with highrise consultancy which can give placement assistance but some students passed from smu claims that they aren't placed anywhere.

SMU provides weekend lectures while AIMA provides e-learning through Hughes Net Global Education. Amity and NMIMS are totally correspondence. NMIMS provides lectures on 5 sundays before one month of exam for doubt clearance and Amity is total correspondence and provides only text books thats it.

I think SMU is best as it offers 7-8 hours weekend lectures and its administration is very particular and staff is cooperative & as 2 assignments per subjects, case studies & project submission will be part of studies and they also provide online learning through Edunext. It also give lateral entry on 3 years experience in which 6 months time can be redeemed and course can be completed within one and half years but subjects aren't redeemed as one has to study first and second sem subjects (total 12) within 6 months but time and fees can be reduced for sure. But biggest problem is that in market smu brand is not considered valid. Its like "MBA from SMU" written on your resume don't look as good as it is written PGDM from symbiosis or narsee monjee (NMIMS)

I don't like icfai or symbiosis. People say symbiosis is best but I don't understand on what basis they say. All it do is provide textbooks and no assigments, no project and only exams. What is the meaning of studing like that. And there is IGNOU as well. But its duration is too long i.e. 2 and half years. Now I am confused which one out of above I should select. I am concerned about market value and good learning. SMU is good for knowledge but many placement consultancy and company don't consider it.

My dear Friend,
In case you are a student and not working in any organization pursuing your higher studies, my humble suggestion is to go for full time professional course in any reputed institute instead of going in for distance mode.
In case you are working somewhere and just want to enhance your qualification eyeing your promotion, then you can join an MBA course in SMU which you have selected already. You are very much confused as accepted by you. IGNOU is the best and well acclaimed Institution. Your haste to complete this course will not work in the long run.
All the best to you,
Ganesh Ramachandran

Dear Ganesh Ramachandran,

Thanks for your reply

Actually I am 30 year old girl and have more than 5 years of total experience and out of that 3 years was in education industry. I worked as admin executive (back office), customer support executive, counselor and academic coordinator cum student service head in more than one organisation. Due to marriage inbetween I was not employed for 2 years but now I want to start working again asap. I can't afford full time mba and due to less than 50% in graduation I am not eligible for any major entrance test like CAT or gcet and also I don't think I can manage to prepare for it now. I had 49.5 % in bcom and less than 45% in Mcom. However I appeared for MAT this december and got call letter from many institutes but all of them are expensive. Now rather than doing expensive full time mba from any private b-grade institute at the age of 30 I would want to start working again, and meanwhile take up distance learning MBA which can enhance my knowledge and profile. I am now in a process to find new job and am confident I will find job somewhere I don't want to go to college and study at any expensive institute which don't have strict admission criteria and also I can't wait to do job now as I need it badly and already had gap of 2 years.

Even I think smu is good, but does it really have that much market value? What about AIMA pgdm program? NMIMS & Amity offers totally correspondence and don't give weekend class option but some people told me nmims & amity are good brand & fees is also reasonable. Now I am confused whether to look for brand name or for services like weekend classes and online learning and placement assistance, supportive staff which only smu provides. So can you pls reply once again or can anyone specifically guide me on this.

Pls also tell me that this 2 years gap will create problem in my career and will it be obstacle in career progress in future and finding new job now

Madam,

Let me appreciate first your eagerness to learn and earn. Your age is not a criteria at all for your progress in career. I completed my Master's certificate in NLP when I was 49 and now going for Level II hypnosis. Learning is continuous.

AIMA and NMIMS are good. Stick on brand name as it has got its own credibility. Weak end classes are mere eye wash as they normally engage the services of non-committed persons to conduct weekly classes in which we don't learn much. Since you are from the realms of education, you can learn yourself - the study material is enough for you to understand.

You have got perseverance and what you need to possess is researching too much to avoid confusion.

Finally, a person's ability to 'function' and deliver goods alone matters. Getting a degree is only to get academic sanctity to what you are going to do.

Best of luck to you,

Ganesh Ramachandran

SCDL , i.e Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning is a very good option for any working professional who is looking for a Management Program.
The curriculla is very good.
They also offer free f cost services like online lectures with faculty, e-learning , chat sesions with faculty etc.
Their examinations are also on demand can can be taken any time during the year, which is very convenient for us working people.
Regardless to say Symbiosis has a brand name which is known to all!!!

I have also read a lot about Distance MBA programs(not MBA but PGDBM etc) from Symbiosis and all, but i have a friend who did her PGDBM from Symbi but gets no credit inside the organisation.
That 1 complete year of hard has given her a certificate from a good institute like Symbi, but it holds no value when it comes to the actual world.
