Dear Meena,

Nice Opinion.... We have already minimize our grace period and now it's 10 minutes.......

Further, We have our own policy as mentioned....

" For 3 late counts in the month .... 0.5 day salary would be deducted... for 6 late counts... 1 day salary wd be deducted............... and so on................"

We were following this rule from last 1 year..... but now management wants to change the rule.. thus they advised us to look into out going / late going of an employees.........

Thus.. Initiated new rule... adjustment of late coming against late going................... one late coming would be adjusted against one late going of 20 minutes beyond office hours...

But this rule.......... isn't so fruitful as employees were sitting in the office in order to recover LWP......

Now... we have to modify the rule... Kindly suggest....

Dear Arvind............... Your Late coming policy is really very nice...............

Keep up the good work .............guys..................

Regards...........

Hi,
Please allow the grace time of 10 minutes beyond the begining hour of the day. One day leave be deducted for three delays. If the same persists it is misconduct and deserves penal action as laid down under rules. Those working late be paid overtime but whether they really need to work late is to be verified by the controlling oficer with full justification and that this does not become a routine.
No one be allowed to attend to an official work before the beginning hours, except with the prior permission of the controlling officer and that too in exceptional cases.

I concur with Gurumurthy.

Late coming should be dealt with on case to case basis and not as a policy matter. 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 1/1 leave should be debited into the account of late comer, after discussing the reasons. Their habit must be changed by persuasion.

Once an employee always reached late owing to his habit of wake up late in the morning. His boss always thwacked for his bad habit. Once he gave him a long lecture. The employee realized his mistake and decided to come on time. He promised his boss that he will come on time tomorrow and always thereafter.

That day after the work, he went to a medical store and bought some sleeping pills so that he could sleep early and rise afresh in the morning. At home, he took a pill and swallowed it. He though the pill might work well. On a second thought he suspected that as a habitual late sleeper the pill might not work on him. So why take Risk, he took another pill and tried to sleep. He slept well.

In the morning he woke up early and lo he was at office quite early to impress his Boss. He waited for the boss to arrive. As soon as he came, he went to him and said"Good Morning Sir, as promised to you I am early and in time.

Boss retorted -"that's right. But where were you yesterday?!!"

Hi, It contains an interesting incident. Late coming is to be viewed in terms of habit or otherwise. Habituals deserve no compassion. Regards S.K.Johri
