The company in which I used to work used to give TA till II AC train tickets to candidates called for interview. It was a MNC manufacturing company.
I once when attended a interview in a Govt. Organisation they had provided me travelling reimbursement, the benefit is tht even if u dont get the job atleast u get to C a new city, and travel,,, :P

Even in my present company we give travel reimbursement to the employees.
I think it is a good practise cause by doing this many candidates are come for te interview. Some times potential ppl don't give Interviews in different cities cause thay feel that if I am not selected then I will waste money on travelling.
I you believe that the shortlisted candidates for personal interview are good and you want to shortlist on eamongst them then I suggest you should pay travel reimbursement.
We pay the train fare.
According to the grade we have decided the max. amount to e paid to the interviewee.

U can Pay TA as Follows. Jr.Level : Sleeper Class Train Or Bus Tickets Middle Level : 3rd A/C or VolVo Bus Sr.Level : 2nd Ac or Sleepr Bus top Level : Economy Flight Fare or 1st AC

Yes, Travel expense reimbursement for interview candidates is a very common practise these days and it is a very good practise. As rightly said by one of our friend, even if the employee is not selected, still he/she feels that their money is not wasted.
The company I work does reimburse the expenses according to our HR policy. It is like :
Trainees/Executives/Associate Mgrs/Mgrs - 3rd AC train fare/bus
AGM/GM/AVP - Economy air fare/1st class AC train
VP/EVP/President/CEO - Business class or actuals.

Apart from this, at times spl approvals can be given my the concerned HOD in some spl cases like if the candidate is coming from a long distance or the interview has to be scheduled immediately etc.

Hi,
i work in an automobile manufacturing company. We do reimburse travelling expenses of outstation candidates -
Officer & Mangerial leve; - 3rd AC
DGM n above - Apex airline fare
Senior mngt - actuals
we do not reimburse local conveyance at officer & managerial levels.
