HI Priyanka

Scope for HR is promising, there are many specialities in HR you can choose to master your career in. Recruitment is one of the speciality most sought after by consultancies and corporate. HR Generalist is also a great profile to acquire. In the end it all comes down to your area of interest in HR field. Talk to all kinds of HR professionals from different speciality and learn their experience, satisfaction levels, challenges to conclude your choice.

In my personal opinion, Recruitment is exciting and grilling at the same time. I can say recruitment is most important function in HR domain. I will try my best to summarize attributes of recruitment in my experience :

• It provides more exhaustive exposure to industries, processes, functions, job grades, levels, pay scales, employment trends etc.

• One gets to know amazing types, variety, diversity of applications from different locations.

• Its highly interactive in its reach and sources, phones, sms, e mails, face to face, social sites, campus, volume drives etc

• Its target based, measurable performance standards and numbers.

• Provides humorous moments, when so much interaction with fellow human kinds are involved, fun is bound to be there.

• Learning and development of self is more faster, quicker and satisfying.

• Make more friends, Make lives and careers.

• Its one of the noble ways to help people get a job, income, respect, affiliation and most of all meaning in life.

Wish you all the best !! .. in any endeavor you choose !

Hi Priyanka,

HR consists of various functionality like payroll, recruitment, appraisal etc. it generally depends upon the profile you have chosen. even HR generalist profile handles all responsibilities simultaneously.

Now your recruitment experience into consultancy will make you expertise in area of recruitment only where you will learn to coordinate with candidates, work on your communication and follow-ups etc. and may be you will become recruitment coordinator of some MNC as your scope increases in recruitment role. Hence it is important to choose a profile/path you want to go. because if you will slightly observe the profiles of generalist/HR in some big firm then they are asking for 4 or 5 yrs of experience into various area. So its better that if you want to go in core HR activity then start your career with generalist profile from smaller firm. where you will learn multiple role and it will be advantageous for you.

I wanted to share my experience where i have started my career from some consultancy where I have to handle almost 50 calls on daily basis. I was technically understanding the requirement and sourcing the candidates and finally forwarding it to client where they were scheduling F2F interview and finally selecting the candidates. Job was interesting for me because i was improving my communication and what questions has to be asked even getting technical knowledge too. But whenever i was observing the JD for big firms they were asking for experience into core HR. So I changed my job and started working for small IT company and that too for generalist profile. but i am happy because I am accountable to take all HR responsibilities and handling all areas. now if opportunity for some bigger firm will come at least i can apply for it / i am eligible for every profile of HR.

Hence better to start it as HR generalist. and it will be good to work for company rather than consultancy.

Hi Priyanka,

Hope you have been informed of most of the aspects of HR. Let me add some...

Recruitment comes under HR. Recruitment involves sourcing, coordinating, screening, shortlisting, interviews, selection and induction. Maybe Ops feedback could also help recruitment process add value to the Organization. (All of these you know!! :D)

Now something else; Sourcing is an interesting and highly sought after skill for a recruiter.

Sourcing involves finding the right candidate. In a large operation support this is critical for Recruitment Division. Because finding right quality & quantity of person at the time when the Ops requires is not easy.

Recruiters/HR professionals use Online Database like Naukri, Monster; also Referrals and Consultancy Support (like the one you are working now). Good recruiters find out innovative ways in identifying the right pool and maintain excellent professional network in the given field.

It pays greatly if you have a broad industry experience, making you flexible and ever in demand.

Apart from sourcing you may also focus on Interview Techniques, Negotiation, Selection Techniques, Interview Drive Management, Recruitment Strategy Planning, Campus Recruitment which are different functions and flavors of recruitment options available in India. This should be purely based on your interest to build a long term career and succeed. Once you achieve comfortable exposure and experience, yo may opt for High Level recruitment, also called as Executive Search (for candidates) and Retained Search Partnership (for organizations).

I have found that a lot of new graduates spent a lot of time in the scene without much clarity, hence came up with an interesting Learning Program. My candidates were benefited with excellent career while in return I was benefited with excellent response. We sometimes engage in joint operations for niche domestic (PAN India) requirements.

Wish you a great career, God Bless.
