DEar Sender, Employee Counselling is very vital process while handling any discipline / grievance handling. I will take study on habitual Absenteeism. For eg. one particular employee is habitually remain absent from his duties. He absenting himself without any prioer intimation / information. in his such case, at first instance, call him and find out the reason of absence, his family background, any family issues, bad habits, friend circle in inside & outside. Explain the good practises for betterment and improve the punctuality. Dont give any solution for his family / otehr causes. Simply ask him improve further. Expalin the consequenes may he face. On 2nd instance, again counsel him and take down in writing "Assurance for good conduct" and record his personal file. If no improvement is seen, visit his house, meet his family memebrs his presence and tell them about his absence and what co. can take action against him. Let his take Oath in front of his family members to improve furhter. Still continues, only Disciplinary Action is the answer. regs Bhushan

ideally a grievance may be victimisation by superior, policy etc... if its the case of a superior then policy on harassment icl an undertaking on fair dealing needs to be framed and imlemented. if its a case of employee's genuine difficulty not getting solved then even company policies/ structure/ etc can be changed. For this lets take the instance of an exit interview wherein the findings demand that compoany structure needs to changed/ policy needs to be more flexible... surya

My past experience of a decade say that counselling is vital for any organisation. I am sorry to see that in India we don't have a special person to handle counselling. We should have a counsellor in whom the employees can confide and talk to on both personal & professional level. My exp. of past 10 years has found it to be very helpful...even today the employees call me in case they have any problem...that is the confidence level they have in me. I amy not be always in a position to help them out but just by lending them a ear and giving them alternative positive solution or soothing them itself makes them feel good. Warm regards Roopa.
