Dear Dipil Kumar,
Thank you for the clear query giving the background.
Please see www.myfloridacfo.com/.../STAIRWAY%20SAFETY%... - United States It would be better to include some slides showing what could happen when handrails are not used.
Have a nice day

Dear Dipil It sounds nice to see such posters. Of course we should use the handrails while going up and down in staircase to avoid avoidable accidents. Thanks for sharing and Keep on sharing.

@Dipilji .... Good Luck for success of campaign.
Accidents can caused because of :
1.No Handrail
2.Handrail at improper height (Too High /Too Low)
3.Persons Carrying items which prevent them from use of handrail
4.Loose Handrail
5.Screw or bolts missing of handrail
6.Missing handrail (Not in continuation)
7.Not easily accessible
and most important
8. No culture of use of handrail
Again my good wish to your team and Hope that you will get success in all respect.
Regards
Abhay

Dear Dipilji ,
Good Initiative ....
The primary causal factors identified for hand and finger injuries are:
- Inadequate assessment of risk
- Inattention or lack of focus
- Cutting corners / rushing.
- Mistaken priorities - safety versus objectives.
- Lifting / applying force incorrectly
 - Using the incorrect tool for the job
In my views : Hands are the most important “Tool” you use. Please take care of them!
Thanks
Abhay

Dear Dipil,

It is good initiatives. There were three LTA in an MNC last year (I'll not name the company) due to not holding hand rails. Employees got even fractures.

There are three inputs from my side as I did the same in my plant too. Also it was a successful campaign.

1) Servant Leadership/Lead by Example: This is a campaign, where the leaders start showing the behavior what they want their subordinates to show. Also we used the photos of leaders in training programme, while they were using hand rails.

2) This was very effective.

One Point Lesson: This is a pictorial representation of Safe & Unsafe behavior together on a paper in a defined format. The format may be developed (It is not a standard format. I developed for my plant.) The important point in that the OPL needs to be prepared by shop floor employees only. Also the employee, preparing the OPL, needs to give a kind of TBT to his co-workers & take their signature on OPL.

After that we are required to get the OPL printed in a bigger size & paste the same near stairs. Please note that employees are required to prepare OPL for their respective areas. This will motivate the people.

3) Also you may start "Feedback on site" programme. In it everyone is powered to give feedback to anyone. (No bar of designation.) e.g. If a manager is not using the hand rail, then a worker may give him feedback that hi behavior is not safe (politely). On the other hand if some is using the hand rail, we are required to appreciate him/her on the spot. Appreciation may be just a pat on back, hand shake & few words. This will surely motivate people.

We also pasted stickers on the vertical side of steps of stairs. It looks good as well as it is informative too.

And at last, sorry team that I was lost on citehr. I came back after a long long time. I'll try to be on site regular now as missed very important & helpful discussions on site.

Thanks & Be Safe,
