Subject -IR

If you are planning to opt for manufacturing or FMCG company, start acquairing knowledge on the following.

1) Familiarise yourself with the mother of all labour laws namely the Industrial Disputes Act since you should have a basic understanding of grievances and disputes and the mechanism for resolution of such disputes as IR deals with them day in and day out.

2) Read Trade unions Act 1926

3) Read Factories Act 1948

4) Read Industrial employment(Standing orders) Act 1946

5) If the State in which you are working, has enacted any Act that deals with recognition of trade unions as in the case of Maharastra whicheenacted teh Mharastra recognition of Trade unions Act, get hold of it.

6) Get hold of a good book on collective bargaining by a good Indian author since you need to understand the process in indian context.

7) Understand the disciplinary procedure and domestic enquiries.

You can also search net for relevant material on these subjects.

This will give an idea of IR.
