Swetha:
The Labour Department of Tamilnadu does not recognise the category of "part-time employee".
If you employ a person on wages, minimum prescribed wages must be paid - whether you use him for the maximum of 8 hours per day or less.
In my opinion, payment of wages to any one - whether permanent, regular, probationer, trainee, casual or part time - should not be less than the minimum wages prescribed for that category.

Dear Krishnamoorthy,
Thanks for the reply..BUT let me know whether the below calculation is correct or not..
Basic - 2192
DA - 1698.30
Total - 3890.30
Minimum wages considered as Rs.3892/- per month
Rs.3892/26 days = Rs. 150
150/8 Hrs =18.7/Hr
18.7*6Hrs=112.25
112.25*26 Days=2925
Please suggest.....!!!!!!!!
Thanks & Regards,

Swetha:
What is the employee's designation?
What is the minimum wages (per month) prescribed by the State Government?
The total remuneration that you propose to pay should not be less than the minimum wages (2) above.

In my opinion it is not correct. The minimum wages should be for 8 hours. One cannot reduce the same for six hours. Moreover also find attached the PF circular where the bifurcation of minimum wages has been put in abeyance.

Yes, I completely agree with gurmeetbhatia bcoz if you are taking employees to work only six hours but at least you are working all day / 8 hours of labor riots. i think

Dear Sweta,
As I mentioned earlier, minimum wages (Rs.3892/- p.m.) will have to be paid.
It is up to the management to make the employee to work for 8 hours. This is the position in Tamilnadu.

Hi, the very word of minimum wages will get defeated if we split and pay proportionate amount. It is for the employer to take 8 hours work. regards prakash
