I have interviewed quite a few people in my time and also taught interviewing skills to both managers and job seekers.
I have never ever seen the need to ask this question.
You cannot test loyalty with this question as no-one is going to give you an honest answer.

I couldn’t find any better alternate to this question to drive conclusion on this subject of concern for HR of any company - INTERPERSONAL ABILITIES. I luv it for the simplicity attached.

Campushrrecruit,
If you are look to test interpersonal skills, then you need to use Behaviourial Based questioning.
Good examples would be something like:
Tell me about a time when you had to work with a coworker you disliked.
What was the situation?
How did you resolve the problem?
What was the result?
Tell me about a time when you disagreed with the actions or decisions of your manager or supervisor.
What was situation?
What did you do to resolve this problem.
What was the result?
If people are leaving jobs due to conflict with co-workers, managers, supervisors etc, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TELL YOU THAT.
You need to use other methods to determine their ability to get on with other people.

Dear Mr. John
Your way of seeking informations is really appreciable and the Behaviourial Based Questions. For your question also if the candidate gives some escaping answer, then how can you get the answer.
Let me try to give the answer for your question.
1. I am going to give my 100% work only during this 8 hours of work and if required I will complete the task alloted to me and quit the place. Why I have to think about any person about the like and dislike.
2. Once I am acting neutrally then why should I bother about any situation.
3. Hence I need not to have any issue or problem to get resolved and always the result will be the positive only.

Hi, that'a big problem that you are facing but every problem has a solution too. the answer for their question must be that you have left it because you are not getting your worth and not being paid according to your talent.

I agree that no interview process is perfect, but Behavioural Based interviewing comes closer to helping us achieve our objectives than anything else right now.
Yes, candidates can bluff their way through any type of question, but in an interview situation, you are testing the candidate's ability to prove their worth to you. By making candidates talk about actual situations they have been in and how they handled them, you learn a lot more about the person. Most skilled interviewers can tell if the candidate is being less than honest. I know I can. When I come up against those sort of people, I just ask a few supplementary questions about the situation they have described and catch them out.
Perhaps you could tell me about a time when you asked a candidate this question. What was his reply? How did the information affect your hiring decision. What was the result in the end?

Dear All,
I have different view.
One does not leave a well paying or rather any job without a job offer in hand unless he is exyremely uncomfortable in the present job.
All the answers provided are good but will be difficult to defend incase they are well probed.
Every body understands that work conditions can a cause for leaving.I left my previous job due to that reason. When asked why I left my previous job I ,for one ,stated the fact and was offered the job.
It may work out in case you state the truth.
I hope you come across people who see your point of view.
Regards,
Col.Rathi

Karthik,
U know in south africa we have a saying that says...Nothing good comes so easily.
So prathik, just keep on doing what you are doing and let the interviewers know that you want a change and also you want a place full of greener pastures..like them too, they too want greener pastures! right?
