Dear Experts, In given below payscale what is the meaning of eb also request you to please help to understand the given below payscale 400-20-600-40-800-EB-50-1000

In the above given pay scale, base salary starts from Rs.400/-
and till attaining Rs.600/- Rs.20/- in base salary is incremented.
EB stands for Efficiency Bar and in the above pay scale, after
one crosses his/her efficiency bar, further amount to be incremented is Rs.50/-.

This type of pay scale is called as Time scale because it based on time i.e increment per year.
The Calculation must be like that
600-400=200
then 200 divided by 20 = 10 increments.
For normal increment, he will get 20 to be added with his existing basic and if he gets 2 increments then he'll get 40 rupees, like that until he attain the next scale, here it is 600.
Thereafter he will get 40 per increments, till he attain 800.
EB= the efficiency bar, is a point to measure his efficiency for next up gradation, if he is not eligible for up gradation, he will be placed in the same grade with slight rise in the scale. He is a wait listed candidate for next up gradation.

Only one point to add, once he comes to Efficiency Bar, then he will be evaluated and based on the Evaluation, if he is not crossing the EB, then his increment will be considered as the previous increment of Rs.40 per increment

400-20-600-40-800-EB-50-1000 pay scale is usually applies to Govt / Quasi Govt / Public Sector organisations and denotes the Basic Pay (DA, HRA etc etc is calculated on this Basic Pay).

As pointed out by Mr Sethupathy, the increment is given by Rs 20 (usually it is annual) to the Basic Pay of Rs 400 till it come to Rs 600 (10 years). After that, the increment is Rs 40 till it reaches Rs 800 (5 years). At 15 years, his work will be reviewed based on his Annual Reports and the minimum standard the organisation expects from him is achieved, he will be deemed as passing the Efficiency Bar (EB) and his increment will be raised to Rs 50.

In case he fails in the reviews, he will continue to draw Basic Pay of Rs 800 (after 15 years) - there will be no further increase of the Basic Pay (some have said that he will continue to increase a increment of Rs 40 after attaining Rs 800 - this is wrong at least in the Government sectors). Also, passing the EB means eligible for further promotions as per the vacancies. No clearing the EB, No Promotions!

Hi,
EB stands for Efficiency Bar. In reputed organisation EB is not granted automatically. When an employee reaches near EB, Management, considering employee's past performance sanction EB. Once EB is granted, employee will get other increments automatically.
