Hi,
There are advantages and disadvantages hiring withing the company. It depends what kind of culture your organization is following.
Type 1 - Organizations fill the positions internally at higher and mid level because they feel employees know about the company, culture and values better than people who come in new. Usually such companies hire people at entry levels.
Type 2 - Organizations prefer new blood at every level, they do not believe in hiring internally since they believe in fresh ideas .
