what is the difference between recruitment and selections process.

Good question. The answer lies on how one thinks about these two terms. As I struggle to understanding these terms properly, in my understanding,

Recruitment: The processes involved in finding the best and right fit for a vacant position. This involves understanding the JD, as HR person understanding the importance or criticality of this position in the organization and calling for applicants (thru newspaper, job portals, availing service from recruiting firms, etc), shortlisting candidates.

Selection: This is the next process. This explains how you want to treat the shortlisted candidate profiles. Your selection process can have written tests, preliminary interviews, group discussions, final interviews involving senior management and you finally select your best fit.

From the above, you can follow the processes in any order - often we come across saying like I am a recruiting, hiring, selecting, etc, etc. One follows the other like, for selection you need to follow some recruitment processes and finally your selection is complete. Finally, we say to some one job-seeker on the telephone: 'Hi, our recruitment is over for that position as we have selected one more qualified candidate. It was tough selection for us as you were also meeting our requirements, we encourage to apply again for other vacancies through our we site, good luck'.

Hope this helps,
