Hi there
I have 2 years recruitment experience. I want to start my own consultancy. Can you please suggest how can i start with this in IT field. How to develop business relationship with companies and how to get database of candidates?

Dear Preeti,
To start with, you need to have access to jobportals to develop your database of the candidates. Since, in consultancy there is stiff competion, and u need to deliver CVs at a very short notice. Initially you can have access to just one job portal. It helps in head hunting too.
To develop business, you can directly approach companies.Being a new consultancy you'll have to be flexible about the rates and have to fast about CVs deliveries, constant follow up with the clients (Maintaining relationship is the key) .
You need to understand the clients requirements perfectly, so that you can deliver quality CVs, which should match with clients requirement.

Its better if you can get to know some HR.. work as a free lancer from home.. in that way.. u will learn all the tips and trade as well as earn some money... Every one speaks about databases but they reley on portals... So buy a portal and start working

Apart from building up database also work upon making a fresh and cincise website for your consultancy ...you can try your hand on doing it initially on google there options for the same are available.....its very simple.....and no cost involved. Then you have to target which industry you wanna cater to; something specific...becuase if you try to cater to 10 different things might get confusing as its just an initiation.....also its better to have few goos but genuine & trust worthy client whom you can have long lasting relations.....as this business thrives on relationship.........may the ones which you have worked in for earlier years of your career......get some business cards printed for yourself.....and you can bargain and buy a job portal....may be for initial 3 or 6 mths so that you can tleast dwnload and craete your database .....then the rest follows.....

For starting Placement Consultancy, you require a good database of Candidates plus, good contacts with organisations to get offers of recruitment for them. Then your job will be to match the candidates with the job profile required by the organisation.

For the best matching, you need to know the nature of job, minimum qualifications & experience required if any & salary range offered for the job.

Besides you are required to know the qualities other than qualificationes expected from candiates. For example, a job may require extensive field wwork. But many job seekers may not like field job.

With this background, it may be possible for you to decide whether to opt for this or not. Anyway, for starting you have to know & analyse many more things before actually venturing into it.

Like Candidate Management, Client Management, Recruitment terminology, how to source active and passive candidaes, the marketing call to clients, cold calling, headhutning, data mining, Technology updates.....and many more such things.

You should have your PAN Card, Service tax number, Website, email, Company profile....tc

We just started an HR Consultancy ....after facing lot of strugles....

Pls find my suggetions for the following issues.

1. The legal formalities to register the company.

First of all, u can consult with a charted accountant for and ask all the things, but before that u hav to fix, whtr u want a PVT ltd Company , Partnership or a sloe propiter ship. If its a private limited company in the intial stage, u must follow all the satutary complains also.

2. How to make the company's profile.

Rgrding Company profile , u can inculde ur Inroduction, I mean HR consultancies scope, viz How can ur company serve etc.
then ur mission, vision, values if any
then about your team,
then how u differ from other consultancies,
ur seach and recruitment processs
ur charges

3. Develop Client relationship.
Its an important factor in this scenario, bcz its easy to get a client, but its so hard to retain them.
First of all ur fast response for there requirement.
Try to send (through email) some valuble inputs like motivtional slides, HR news letters, other inputs on a day/week basis.
Arrange some quarter meetings iwith HR ppls . ( no need in the inital stage, if u r not starting it in a big way)
If u hav a web site, ask them to register ther .

4. Data base of the candidates.

1. Ads
2. Website.
3. Portal (naukri,monster) other sites
4. Mass emailing
5. Tele calling.
6. References.
7. Social Communities like orkut, face book etc.
8. College placement cells

I will be very straight forward and will write the points in steps for better understanding.

1 decide a name for your company: Deciding name for the company is very important as this is the brand for which you will be working for the rest of your life. You should like the name and you should be able to relate yourself to the company.

2. Buy a domain name: You should buy a domain name for your company. Its compulsory because no body would trust a company who doesn’t have a good website and domain name is very important for having a website. Domain names are cheap around Rs. 450 /year and you can register a domain easily from this link and you can even check whether you company name is available or not by clicking this link?

3. Get your website Designed and Hosted: Next step is to get yourself a professional website design for your company. Designing could start from Rs. 7000 but i would recommend you to invest a little in website designing and hire a professional website design company . Professional design could cost you starting from Rs. 15,000 and basic Hosting for your website could cost you around Rs. 1000 per year.(Also look for Airtel Website builder its cheap and easy,My own website is threw airtel website builder,)

4. Choose the type of company you want to open: Deciding which type of company you want to open is something which you have to do. There are 4 types of company which you can form in India.

* Sole Proprietorship : A sole proprietorship also known as a sole trader, or simply proprietorship is a type of business entity which is owned and run by one individual and where there is no legal distinction between the owner and the business. All profits and all losses accrue to the owner . All assets of the business are owned by the proprietor and all debts of the business are his debts and he must pay them from his personal resources
* Partnership: A partnership is a type of business entity in which partners (owners) share with each other the profits or losses of the business. Partnerships are often favored over corporations for taxation purposes, as the partnership structure does not generally incur a tax on profits before it is distributed to the partners
* Private Limited: A private company is a type of company incorporated under the India. It has shareholders with limited liability and its shares may not be offered to the general public, unlike those of public limited companies
* Public Limited: A public limited company is a type of limited company in the India which is permitted to offer its shares to the public.

5. Starting as a sole proprietorship firm: If you are starting alone i recommend you to start as a sole proprietor, because its easy to start and total control is in your hands. There are not much formalities for this kind of firm, you just have to get a current account ready in your name and you are ready to do business. However, if you company turnover reaches 10 lakhs per year, you will have to register for service tax.

6. Open a current account in any Bank: Opening a current account is the most important part of business. If you are opening a sole proprietership firm and have your service tax registration done, you can open account in any bank you want. But if you have not applied for service tax registration, you can opt for government banks to open the account. You can look for IDBI bank as opening current account is quite easy in that bank. For opening a current account you will need a company letterhead, Visiting card, and company stamp.

7. Buy naukri or monster login: You have to buy naukri or monster login to supply candidates to your clients. This is the costly part of consultancy business but you have to buy this to get started. Naukri login costs around Rs. 60,000 for 3 months and monster is almost around Rs. 35,000 for 3 months. You can buy it anytime but i recommend you to buy it once you get your first client. Don’t forget to negotiate as who knows you can get a better deal.

8. You are ready to do the business. Just go ahead and start searching for clients.
