Dear Seniors
We all know, what happens in India.
Fresh MBA graduates are offered for teaching positions !! leave alone getting jobs in other industry, which is still acceptable if there is a training program, on job training or mentoring.
MBA is just a convenient PG degree which everyone runs behind thinking that putting this magic word on CV will fetch fat salary. Even during MBA course most of the students dont give an honest effort to learn the skills and concepts, they fake project work, fake internship tenure etc.
Teachers or management is least bothered about the development of the students, once the fees are recovered, students are fending off themselves.
In name of placements, there are BPOs hovering around the campus to pick up desperate students having realized what blunder they have done wasting 2 years of thier youth life.
MBA is a business in India, you may find colleges as big as spread over 100 acres to 3 BHK MBA college !!! Everything sells in India !!

Dear Hussain.
You are right. I have visited a number of colleges where the staff that teach are all relatively fresh graduate, if not without any experience and fresh after MBA. I have questioned their eligibility to teach functional subjects without having worked in that function.
Similarly, I have seen the quality of the so called dissertations/project work. It is the system's fault. In private instituions teachers are poorly paid and it's a money spinning business. The question is what can people do to improve the situation. I know you are based in Kuwait; but may I know where you got your MBA-HR from?
Have a nice day.

Dear Mr Simhan

I did my MBA from Allana Institute of Management Sciences, affiliated to Pune University. I m one of those lost souls who did MBA thinking that it would enhance my career, but my intention to join MBA was to develop myself for a better career. Unlike my peers who were joining BPOs by dozens, I also followed same, after 1 year of wandering around and restlessness, lack of guidance and attempts at CAT, NMAT, XAT, SNAP did not succeed due to high cut offs. I was adamant to learn what MBA offers.

However it dint turnout what I had imagined and this institution turned out to what I mentioned earlier, a money making unit. So I studied whatever I could from my self initiative. My fellow students laughed at few of us who spoke about doing a real project and real internship rather than copy-paste.

Well whatever I learned helped me now.. but frankly speaking, doing MBA is one of my life's major mistake.

I m more keen on getting experience. I had 2 job offers for teaching in this types of colleges but I politely turned down saying that I m not qualified, experience or expert to teach at this point, although I do look forward to this career when I can truly command the expertise to mentor young minds. which is atleast having 12 - 15 years of industry experience.

Hi Readers

Mr Simhan asked a question "what can be done to improve this situation ? "

My suggestion is :

Eligibility for MBA pursuant must have prior experience of minimum 3 years in Industry and then admission be granted to MBA. This will help the MBA candidates to make a matured decision regarding whether to do MBA or not, in which specialization they can choose, they know the value of real work and experience.

Internship during MBA must be made upto 6 months, i.e. atleast one semester must be complete internship. 2 months internship is not sufficient to learn from real corporates. Also corporates will get a fair chance to know the real caliber of the students. if a student is slacking during internship he/she would be fired from that corporate, unless 6 months internship is duly completed, that student shall not be awarded MBA degree.

System of mundane project work shall be abolished, instead performance appraisal from the HR or line manager under whom the internship has taken place must be submitted to college for allotting marks.

For example, in a 6 month internship program, college and corporate can have predetermined targets depending on specialization

Marketing : Sales targets, product performance reports, etc

HR : Recruitment targets, appraisal reports, training and development sessions conducted etc.

IT : Systems learned, cases solved, platform proficiency

Finance : Investment portfolios shadowed, audit cycle attended, trading experience etc.

Teacher's performance shall be evaluated depending on attendance levels, teaching quality, notes quality, presentations prepared, rapport with students etc.

Students can be alloted marks on attendance, presentations, grooming, etc.

This are my suggestions, which are difficult to implement but not impossible
