How T& D is important and useful. How it is effective in an organisation? I think, this is the querry.

To start with, we have to understand that training is different from teaching. i.e., it is not just imparting information. It is empowering the trainee to do the job (for which the training is done).

Broadly speaking, training has three objectives: (1) imparting the relevent information to enable the trainee to do the job more effectively; (2) develop the necessary skills in the trainee & (3) to cultivate correct attitude towards the job.

There are different types of trainings.

When a new employee is joining, he has to get the induction training, in which we will have to give him basic knowledge and skills. In certain cases it can be conducted in class room training. Otherwise, it must be organised as on the job training. Whereas, in many cases it can be a combination of both.

After the initial training, it may be necessary to conduct refresher programmes.

Another method is conducting workshops, where specific skills can be developed or capability can be improved.

Still, another training needed is to impart new techniques or create awareness of new aspects like safety methods.

For all these, training needs have to be identified and after training evaluation must also be done.

Thus training enables the trainee to do the job, improve his capabilities, create confidence to do better performance and helps to develope professional attitudes. This will naturally improve the productivity and morale of the organization.

But, one thing must be kept in mind. It is not once in a life time activity. For the required result, continuous trainings and assessments are necessary.

With Regards,
