Hr Manager

Dear All,

I want to share my experience and want to know if what I did was right....

I attended an HR interview yesterday with a global leader in consulting, outsourcing and technology services. I went there after re-confirming with the HR and after cancelling my appointments. The interview was scheduled for 4pm. I was there before 4pm, was asked to meet their security on the other entrance who did not even have the HR's extn and asked me for the same, and then handed over an application form and asked me to fill it. When asked if I was supposed to stand and fill the same(they did not have a proper seating arrangement at that reception area) he then sent me to the centre of the office, midst of the employees. I waited there for more than 15 mins after which the HR came and put me in a meeting room and then left me unattended for more than an hour, did not even have the decency to ask a glass of water. At around 5.30pm One of the recruiter then came and asked me to move out of the room,as they had booked the same for some meeting. I then told the receptionist to get the HR on line, which she did but the HR preferred not to speak to me and instead asked me to wait for the Manager. I called her again and she avoided answering my call. I was asked by the receptionist to wait for some more time to which I told her that I am leaving and walked away. Called the HR from outside and gave her a piece of mind.

These people are apparently from the People Relationship Management team of the company.

Me too had a similar experience. I travelled from Coimbatore to Bangalore to attend the interview. My interview was scheduled at 9.00 AM. I was there by 8.55 AM. I was asked to wait. I had to wait till 11.30 after which the Factory manager came and spoke to us. After that we were asked to wait. I had to get back to catch a train at 9.0 pm.
(The interview was about 2 hours journey from my stay. Had to get the luggage and get back to station all put together would take around 3 hours.)
:x
I was asked to wait for the Director of the company.
I was kept waiting till 4.30 pm. At last I lost my cool  and went to the HR executive who did not even realise the problem instead said that for the interview you should come prepared. (For a whole working day)
I said I am leaving and left.
As a HR guy, I never allow people to wait. In case they are made to wait, I apologise to them for the delay.

Hi Jancy/bagema,
That's Too bad an experience & not the part of Hrs to do like that, such an undigestive thing, Hr's are not supposed to test the patience of the candicates, it really draws a bad impression on the company as a whole with a single such event.
Hr's are the persons who represents the company than any one else.

hi Bala,
See this is very common but im being a interviewer is also facing the same. coz things are not in our end if MD, VP is busy with their work then we cant help at times.. but since i ahve joined i am trying to fasten the process but still some gap is there..
Iam also impatient.. when i go for interview i also.. get impatient n react at times..
Dnt know how can we change this..

Hey Jancy/Bala,
It is truly sad that you had to go thru such a phase during interviews...citing how a company is well organised in such small instances!
Some of the interviews scheduled with technical or top management may lead to such delays, i feel. This brings in more probabilities of they being not available during the scheduled time.
HR has an important role to play at such occasions.
Inform the security gate about the candidate’s arrival and support smooth security process.
Comfort the candidate with basic info the candidate must know.
May be the candidate can browse the Company library.
Else reschedule the meeting if the delay is beyond 4hrs and inform the candidate.(depends on the priorities)
Lastly I want to share a thought … “if HR you interacted was just a coordinator!” Whatever the dept is expected to have good coordinators!

feel very sad about the incident,,,
You have to make sure about all details with the consultant prior itself,,
You should take this issue with the consultant referred you so that in future other candidates will not be given this treatment,
