Can somebody let me know what number of workers should be there in an organization to appoint a safety & Welfare officer & what is the procedure.....
Dear pmttalwar,
In the Factories Act-
500 workmen for Welfare Officer
1000 workmen for Safety Officer.
Refer the Factories Rules applicable to your area to know the rules of appointment, qualification fixed etc.,

Under Plantation Labour Act, 1951 a Welfare Officer is required to be appointed where the no. of workers are 300.
Under Factory Act, 1948 a Welfare Officer is required to be appointed where the no. of workers are 500.
For Safety Officer under same act, no. of workers are 1000.

Dear all,
Safety officer and welfare officer are two different subject.
Sec. 40.B of the Factories Act 1948 has provisions for Safety Officer where as Sec. 49 has the provision for Welfare Officer.
In General conditions a Safety Officer should be employed where one thousand or more workers are ordinarily employed.
But the other part of Sec. 40.B empowers the state government to instruct the occupiers by notification on official gazette to depute safety officer irrespective of the min. no. limits of the total employee strength.
As for welfare officer, as per Sec. 49 the min. no. of employees is 500.
Expecting more inputs from the members of the forum.
Best Regards.
Raman.
