Can anyone please help me with the case study. I want to prepare a presentation for this case study.

As a result of rapid growth in sales, the Company had to double the size of the central secretarial pool. Many of the current secretarial staff, aged about 40 to 50, had been with the company since its inception. None had more than a high school education. Subsequently, 10 new secretaries were recruited with advanced data processing skills. They had college education and all were in thier 20s. Unexpectedly, the performance level of the pool fell off drastically even though doubled in size. The manager interviewed a few of the old staff members and they told him that the new secretaries just did not fit in. They were unco-operative, would not listen, and would not take messages. When their mistakes were corrected, they got offended. In interviewing a few of the new secretaries resented that the older secretaries refused to accept new and more efficient ideas. They complained their inability to use new knowledge and skills and the older secretaries would not socialise with them.

Questions :
1. What are the reasons for the declining productivity of the group?
2. What are your recommendations for improving the situation?

Ideally I would have liked you to share your answers to the above case so that others can supplement it. However since I notice that you are new to the site, I shall take the liberty of giving you some pointers around which you can build your answer.

- The first problem is the obvious cultural clash because of the gap in age and educational background of the new joinees and the existing employees.
- Both sets of people view the other with suspicion and as a result there is subtle non cooperation and possibly minimal communication the two sets of people
- The work style of both sets of people would be very different and as a result some tasks that can be automated will not be done by the older group while the personal touch required in other tasks would be missing in the set of new joinees.
- Apparently there also seems to be a leadership crisis that has resulted in poor team work, inefficient job allocation, slack supervision and ineffective mentoring to ensure group cohesiveness.

Trust the above points will help you make a good beginning and also spur innovative solutions.

9) Lack of professional training
10) Lack of competence
11) Inadequate Communication
12) Lack of adapting to new ideas
Also can you tell me what are the recommendations that will help to increase the productivity?
