Dear Thiyagarajan,
Most of the safety equipments are capital equipments. While purchase department may control the budget but the purchase decision will be taken by your management. You better talk to your management and obtain the approval.
Safety is of paramount importance and it cannot be subject to the budgetary provisions. Purchase of safety equipment can be done jointly by you and procurement professionals.
Thanks,

Dear Mr. Thiyagarajan
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT is linked with ANNUAL EMPLOYEE EXPENDITURE where as other equipment is taken into account as ANNUAL EXPENDITURE - WORKING CAPITAL.
Your management can derive the PPE BUDGET - PER EMPLOYEE. There should be buffer minimum 10-20% due to wear & tear of PPE.
With profound regards

Sir
first of all
1. collect the data for 2 or 3 years behind for the consumption of PPE's
2. Deside a nominal quantity of PPE's
3. Get the Quotation for teh items
4. Putforth to management for new capex budget and get approval for the same
5. With the approval indent to purchase dept. for material purchase
6. Every year sit with pruchase dept. for the previous year consumption and allocate cost code for teh PPE's
7. prepare the cost budget on yearly basis.
hope you might understand

  • It seems no budget provision has been made for purchase of PPE. If you feel there is a need to purchase PPEs, then first go ahead and do some estimation, prepare budget and get it approved from Management.
  • Right now you are in the first month of Financial Year and this is the right time for getting your budget approved from management.
  • You need to throughly study the situation in your factory to arrive at the quantity of different PPEs, you need to purchase for current year and accordingly arrive at the figure. Last years budget or it's utilization may not be the right and only parameter.

Hello All

Safety plays a vital role whether at work or home...however the general trend is to overlook when issues arise, hoping that they won't cause a serious problem. We as 'Indians' have a poor value on human life and that is the fact, however technologically advanced we may have become.

SAFETY IS A FRAME OF MIND.....which must not only be preached but practiced. Having Safety Manuals & PPE Equipment alone is not enough. You need to actively participate & ensure safe practices are followed.

PPE is a tool which ensures we safe guard ourselves when working in areas prone to accidents or concerning health issues...which come in the form of safety glasses, ear defenders, hard hats, work gloves, steel toe shoes and so on.

Based on the employee strength and wear and tear, these items need to be ordered and stocked up. These can be procured based on quotations from different vendors (however meeting the basic standards or ISI guidelines as per the law).

Captial Expenditure in terms of safety goes toward's adequate lighting, meeting or excelling minimum safe practices, annual trainings, expenses on fire safety equipment, etc...

It does not matter if the Purchasing department plays the role of procurement....that is the case in most big companies....What matters most is whether SAFE PRACTICES are being adhered.
