Hi

A couple of ways to attempt to identify peak performance time could be as under

1. Look back at your student days and identify the time you felt most comfortable doing your studies. There are many of us who would say it is late night or early mornings but since this is not normal timings for most of us in our work environment, the next best time that you felt you could give your best would perhaps be an indicator of the peak time.
2. Assuming that you can divide your work into 4 slots two in the morning and two after lunch, analyze how you organize your work. When do u feel least stressed when doing work? When do u feel that you can give your best shot for the entire time slot? Broadly this would indicate the peak time and the most critical jobs must be done at that time. Conversely the time slot when you are most distracted is when you must do the routine, less important and unavoidable jobs where you can afford to slack a bit without serious consequences.
3. Prepare a time log of 1 hour slots which will have to be compulsorily filled in with the outline of work done each day for at least a week but doing it for a month would deliver better results. An additional column indicating if one is satisfied with the time usage would add more value to the log. An analysis of the log could be very revealing.

Prerana - I had another reflection. As I thought more about your question, I was reminded about the difference between "peak performance time" and "peak intensity" time. I think what you are seeking is peak performance. This represents the cycle during the work day when your energy, creativity and productivity are really operative. I have found that when I am in this mode, I am focused and excited but not stressed. This can be confused with peak intensity which represents that cycle where you are grinding, getting work done, you feel stress or pressure and you are unaware of what happens around you.
