I worked for a compay for a month and had to resign due to personal problems. i informed them that i will not be able to continue and asked do they require any formal resignation from me. They informed me nothing is required
Now after 3 months i get a letter from company asking to pay 1 month salary for not serving notice period. appointment letter also contains this clause. they r threatning legal consequences if i dont pay 10,000.
Please Guide, i really cant afford anything.

You did not mention the reasons for not continuing with the job there...
Also, i would like to know if the information was given in writing or through email, or was it just verbal communication?
And yes dear, even if you have informed them verbally, as per the clause in your appointment letter the salary in lieu of notice period has to be paid.
Try talking to the HR and tell them about your financial situation and solve it amicably.
