I am a senior member in IR field. Normally terminating the employee at the end of probation period is legal. During the probation period the employee should be given ample oppertunity to show improvements. If his performance not upto the satisfactory level build up records to prove his inefficiancy by issuing warning letters. Then wait till he completes the probation period and terminate him at the end of probationary period. This holds good in law. In case of misappropriations or misconducts which hampers the interest of the company during the porabtionary period it is justified to terminate the service immediatly.
For any employment 3 months probationary period is short. At least 6 months probationary period is standard. If the employee is covered under the standing orders of the company, you have to follow the clause as per Standing orders, or if he is a work man and no certified standing order exsits, follow the model standing orders of that state.

Dear Pooja,
Nothing is impossible. One should try to reach the goal. Even if 60% what is said is practiced /cultivated one is sure to become a good manager or a leader. no body will be born with all the skills presented. It has to be developed and practiced.

Dear all who have responded.
Happy to see so many Good response except one or two not so good feed back. Tolarence / patience and healthy criticism is also one of the Qualities of a good HR guy. Learning is a continues process and has no end. I have tried consolidating all the good qualities a Manager or a Human being should have in order to advance in career or in life. The PPt may be edited to suit the requirement of the workshop / Class room or the type of audience you are training/addressing. Regards, B N Nagaraj

CHANGE is a must to survive. Remove the first letter C and the last letter E from change. See what remains. If you dont change that is what is going to happen to you. A good PPt. Keep it up.

Dear Shweta,
This has reference to quary above. When you want to tell a candidate that he /she is not selected be polite in communicating to him/her. You need not give all the reasons for not selecting the candidate. But do not tell him/her on the face that he/she is REJECTED. Word Rejected is a very sensitive word. Some people will get offended. You might have rejected him/her. But some other organisation might find him good. Just say that you are not suitable for the requirement we are seeing. Either it might be salary fitment or job profile fitment. Thank him/her for the keen interest shown in joining your organisation. Tell that his/her application will be in active file for future consideration.

Dear Mr asmakausar,

I am trying to give you certain tips for your questions. There is no right or wrong answers. These are the standard questions asked in any interview.

1. What is the reason for changing the job?

Defenitly you know why you are leaving the job or trying for other jobs. It might be various reasons. Might be for better growth, better salary, better organisation, proximity, might be your boss is not getting along with u well ?????. Marriage and change of place etc etc. But as far as possible try to be honest and give proper justification. But my advice to you is never blame a organisation or blame your boss and dont give health reasons. This gives a bad impression.

2. At the end of th interview they ask me do you want anything to ask us?

This is a good way of ending the interview by the interviewer. If you have any doubts on the job profile, working hours, Clarification on salary if they have discussed with u in the first intervew itself, to whome you will be reporting to or how big is the team etc etc. But never ask questions for the sake of asking. If u dont have questions say no sir. Never put any demanding questions to the interviewer.

3. Tell me about yourself?

This question is asked in the begining of the interview to make the cadidate comfortable and know something about the candidate. Of course many details will be already in your resume. but still they want to hear it from you to know your communication skill and some time to ascertain what u have projected in your resume. Some times the interviewer would like to know your family background which will not be in ur resume. When they ask this question dont have long answers, be brief and specific. Start from Graduation, post graduation, your previous organisation in brief, and your family back ground. Then leave it open to them to ask further questions.

Hope I have clarified your doubts,

Thanks B N Nagaraj

Dear ranjit,
Thanks for your feed back. I am not a full fledged trainer like you. Based on my experience I develop PPTs for the benefit of youngsters in the field and and freshers who just come out of the college or for Students of Management institutions as guest lecture as a hobby and sharing what I know. I dont think one has to conduct a survay or research on every aspect and come to conclusions. I develop my presentations on my hard core experience in the field of IR/HR. It might not be exhaustive and might not cover all qualities. While taking the sessions I do eloborate on each point. PPTs are developed for the guide lines while doing any work shop. One has to build over it. No body can give ready made solutions or by our workshops we should not think that we can change a person overnight.
Take the spirit of the subject coverd and not how it is put on PPT. You might have not seen my other 13 original PPTs posted in citeHR. Please go through all the PPTs and send your valueble feed back. This would benefit me and the HR community at large. Thanks for your PDF file attached. I will take certain points form your PDF to develop my next presentation. Waiting for your feed back.

Good that so many have responded and have given their independent view. Of course cirus was over enthu and wanted to project himself in a different way. It is not his mistake. It is the mistake of his HR head. He should have been properly inducted to the Company. As said by others in any companies if a new person joins an introductory note is sent to all along with his photo and a copy is also displayed on the Notice board for the information of others who do not have access of email. This is done on the first day of joining and this is done by the HR head himself/herself. This Company failed to do this.

On the other part the new joinee should have atleast asked the HR head before sending such mail as it was only 1 or 2 days of his joining. Over enthu on the part of the new joiniee is a wrong step. He could have waited for few days and study the culture and style of the organisation and then move forward. Each Companys' culture differs. One should not adopt the same style what one adopeted in previous organisation. If HR guys are very impulsive and over enthu it would be very difficult. Look before you leap.

How ever it is wrong on the part of MD to fire a person for this silly reason. And the HR head wanted to save his/her own skin. This happens many time with the superiors.

This is a bitter lesson learnt by the new joinee. The new joinees, that too youngsters in the field should weigh pros and cons before acting on any situation.

Feel sorry for the budding HR professional. Failures are the stepping stones for success. Dont take it into heart. You have a long career ahead. Forget all and start a fresh.

Dear chum
Normally stress occurs in Negative situations. The gravity of negative situation varies from person to person. Some might be very strong will powered people who can with stand heavy stress and cope up with it. Week minded persons will react very fast. It is not that it always occurs in negative situations. Stress might occur for students because of examination fear, for some fear of failure in any assaignment, for some if they want to atttend any important forth coming event or functions or journy to be under taken, up bringing of children, great expectations and to achive it etc., etc., they might develop stress. I am not a Psychiatrist. What ever little knowledge I have, I am trying to throw some light on this.
Thanks
