Hi,
I have around 5 years of experience in HR as well as Compliance(personnel) also. Now i ahve got an offer to work in personnel and admin department with one of the most reputed group in India. Now problem is many people suggest me not to go for this option because in personnel, i would interact with labour class and govt officials.(*being a girl biggest problem is with me as many people said) and other reason is that i would restrict myself in terms of growth.(because of the hierarchy in management, as personnel people do not have much opportunities to raise in the management ladder.) the third reason is all the admin and personnel people report to HR guys. So i would restrict my self in many ways. Please suggest me should i go for that or not?

Hi Pooja,
In your thread itself, you have written admin& personnel people have to report to HR. So definitely HR does have a big scope in your future. Anyway the final choice is yours.
Best of luck

Hi Pooja,
I dont think that in all the organization admin or personal ppl report to HR. They have their own Dept and there is growth too. There are so many girls who are in higher position in admin or personal and doing well. It depends upon ur own interest.

hii pooja,

in my opinion personnel dept is not like that.in many orga. HR dept is known only becoz of personnel dept.instead of soft skill nothing more requiered in HR dept.if u have realy want to learn something then personnel/IR is best platform.in IR u can learn how to deal with Govt.officials, how to deal with un-educate people, villagers, how to address mob.and the rules and regulation of factories, labour,pf,esi, payment of wages, migrant workers, overtime etc etc.and it is required to be a good HR Proffessional. Now u can see in india top HR proffessional are from PM/IR back ground.yes may be personnel dept do report to HR but that doesnt mean HR is better than IR.in many big org.IR/personnel dept is different from HR dept and their reporting structure are also different.i think IR/personnel people are more knowledgeous, matured, and visionable.and one thing always keep in your mind that every work has equal ethics, values and do always respect wht u are doing & wht u r going to do.

so take it easy.....

dont dwell in the past, neither do look too far ahead, always focus on the present

best of luck for future

bye tc.

Hi Pooja,
As you have mentioned that you have total 5 years of experience in the field of HR. According to me you have to grow in HR field only because you have good experience and grow more in this field.
Please not run behind "The Big Companies" just focused on "Job Satisfaction".
The change of field may harm the career many times. Its better for oneself to develop in the field where he/she has good grip.
And at the end choice is yours. But according to me, please grow in the field of HR.

HI, POOJA
I think you should join the PM/IR. Never think about your limitation, always think about opputunity.
You have good opputunity in the PM/IR, there are so many things to do and Implement. If you work in the PM/IR you can be more matured, knowledble and understand very basic things which will very heplfull in future also.
BEST OF LUCK FOR FUTURE.

We HR people are not known for any technical skills ( if any body have ) but known for our people skills and these can be developed only by interacting with people whatever is there class i.e. labour or managerial.
So just leave the HR or personnel concept just make your decicion where you are able to improve your people skills.

Hi Pooja,
As you said, since your are more than five years experience in HR as well Legal compliance in personnel. By the way this the right direction which you working now. Now most of the Indian and MNC companies paying very much attention to HR and compliance. But only problem in the HR and Compliance you can’t get immediate leap but it has lots of exposures. Based on that my opinion would be let continue the same as a HR and compliance.

Hi Pooja..
First up all change ur mindset. HR dept is only deal with all other dept in organization deal with cordial relationship. So u can
learn lot of employees feelings & how to react the face the problem. So u have more patient & analyse both ways identify the
problems & solve that problem.
HR is High Risk. So take care easy mind set do well. All the best.
Thanks & Regards,
