There is an employee in my organization with following traits:
-dominating
-aggressive
-not ready to learn
-becomes defensive when feedback is provided
-takes the privileges given as for granted
-active participant of office gossips
-just meeting the targets and not working towards over acheiving them
-no hunger for growth left within
Plz help with some suggestions - How to deal with this employee and make sure that this behavior does not hamper the performance of other employees. Also this employee is able to improve upon above traits.

Dear Sriv,
Let your superiors know about the employee first and arrange for a formal meeting with that employee along w/ your superiors and warn him/her.
Also, mention that if this attitude prolongs, he/she might be terminated from the employment. Give him/her a memo or warning letter. (signed by the team leader)
take one month of time and Check, if there is any improvement after the meeting with that employee.
If his/her attitude remains same, without any second thoughts through out of the company.
People are waiting outside who really are in need of job and who really wants to perform.

I feel that there is a need for a counselling for this person...
You can try and do the following..
#Assess the person and situation, and find out why do you feel that a person is being arrogant?
# Generally these kind of people are very insecure and they seek to dominate and control because they are afraid of being dominated and controlled.
#Talk to him directly or ask his supervisor to talk to him, find out the problem behind such behaviour
Also, i would like to know if this person also bullies others?? or anyone in the organisation has left because of him or any problems related to him.
If you confirm this, will reply to you afterwards.

Hi,
As per the illustration here, i infer the following.
1.the employee ( lets call Mr. X) is meeting the targets but is not interested in out achieving them.
Mr.X is meeting his targets that means.. he is aware of what is expected of him but doesnot try to outperform. that may be because he is not satisfied with one of the aspects.
first of all check with him about this irresponsible behaviour, in private.there might be a strong cause for the same( might be he is not satisfied with the pay or responsibilities or the role he is currently playing)
@. Secondly we need to check since when has he started this strange behaviour.
This bahaviour can show up only if MR.X is associated with the organisation for a longer time. so, let him realise that he is just another employee and can be fired if he doesnot maintain the etiquette.
Warn him and provide him with a month's time to change his behaviour else the management can take action.

First & foremost, pl mention since how long is this person working in your company?

Whether it's worth spending time & effort to counsel him or modify his traits/attitude depends on this aspect. If he joined a few months ago, I don't think it's worth it--but it will be a very valuable feedback to correct your hiring practices--how did such a guy get into the company in the first place?

In such a situation, just give a chance & then fire him--it's simple, like Kaval Vaseer said :-)

Assuming making attempts to correct his attitude--whatever be the reasons--is worthwhile to the company, then I agree with Archna & Srividya except a slight change in the modus-operandi. Do the checking/talking/counselling thru someone who can handle it INFORMALLY. Else it's very likely that he will harden his attitude & the whole effort is wasted--& in the end the declaration will be: he didn't co-operate.

Yes...this person is there in the system from quite long..and as what i sense, Mr. X is relaxed that he has a safe place in the firm. also his biggest competitor was on 2 months leave due to wedding and is now settled out of my town n working from there for my firm. so Mr. X feels himself like the undisputed king of the kingdom.
