Regarding ESI, Mr. Madan Mohan Verma explained the contribution details and ceiling limit. Hence I shall furnish the PF details.
The salary ceiling (generally basic+DA) for PF is Rs. 6,500. But if the employer & employee wish, contribution can be made on actual salary in excess of ceiling limit.
From both the employee and employer 12% will be deducted towards PF. Out of the employer contribution 8.33% up to a ceiling of Rs. 541 p.m will go to Pension Fund and the rest of the amount will be credited to individual PF account along with employee contribution. Other than the above contributions, employer has to contribute 0.5% to EDLI in addition to admin charges to PF & EDLI (1.1% & 0.01 respectively).

Wages does not include overtime allowance for coverage purpose but esi contribution is payable on overtime.

As posted above by Mr.Abbas and Mr.Madan mohan, I would further clarify some points on ESIS. One gets covered under the ESIS, if the gross salary is less than or equal to Rs.15000/-. In case the salary rises above or equal to Rs.15001/- due to any salary revision, increment etc. he would not get exempted till he has reached the cut out point (contributory period) i.e. April / October
Which means he would still be in the Esis coverage till the month of April or October, whichever is earlier.
