Dear ISP Members,

My warm greetings to all.

I am doing my M.E Manufacturing Engineering at Anna University of Technology,Coimbatore. As a part of my curriculum I am doing a project in area of Lean Manufacturing.

As you all may know that Lean is all about minimizing waste time and increase lead time in an manufacturing company. Lean Manufacturing is focused upon Seven types of waste
 • Over Production
 • Inventory
 • Motion
 • Unnecessary Process
 • Waiting
 • Transportation
 • Defects.
 • I am try the possibility's of including Safety (Unsafe Practice) as the Eighth waste in the Lean Technique.
The Company in which I have taken up my project has implemented some lean tools like 5S , Kaizen and TPM. As of this my project will have only marginal result. So I have an idea to incorporate unsafe practice as one of the lean waste. Kindly share on How to collect data for unsafe practice? technique followed in your company.

I am looking forward with your valuable suggestions and expertise guidance for my project. If you know some resource persons please forward their reference.

Regards,
Vivek S

Dear Ashokkumar.P,
In your discussion Breakdown is missing as a part of lean manufacturing.
If you relate the breakdown with the unsafe practice you will able to find this little bit easy to initiate.
As breakdown is one of the common cause in all the company for production and time loss and breakdown in time/activities can be because of unsafe practice or accidents, this we are seeing in our day to day life.

So this will be a good idea to link the safety with breakdown.
