Hi, Please let me know how you differentiate between competency and Skill. Also what is the difference between competency mapping and Skill matrix.Regards Ramesh

Hi, The words stating 'competency' is the persons ability to do the job while the 'skill' indicates his ability to do the job precisely accurately and effectively.

skill relates to a specific activity or behavior. This usually involves manual tasks, such as typing, but can also refer to mental activities, such as solving a mathematical problem.
competency is usually more encompassing that “skill” and is often used to refer to the collection of skills, knowledge and attitudes required to perform a work task to a minimum standard

Skills are required for the workers and competencies for managers.
For example :
Machine operation is the skill of a worker and leadership is the competency of a manager.
Skill matrix is used for finding the training need of the workers and competency mapping is input for training ,appraisals,selection of managers.
