Dear earlystar,
This topic had been discussed lot of time in this forum. Again you have never mentioned your industry type and the position/designation of that particular person who is coming late. Please do give a clear and concise statement for you to get a proper feedback.

Hi ,
Late Comming might be due to many reasons for an employee. he might get stuck in trafic, some personnel issues at home, sick etc etc. please check one on one why they are comming late. and tel them cleary that organisation has flexible timings but they have to work 9hours in a day no matter when they come. this might help.

Dear Friends,
Thanks for the reply, Mr. Mahesh this is the first time im posting this case in cite hr, we are software industry, the person who is coming late he belongs to Business Analysis team they have general shift ie 9.30am - 6.30pm, we gave 10mins grace time in the morning, and we have attendance policy like (those who are going late in the evening after 8.00pm can come late in the next day morning ie before 11.00am. but this person going by 7.00pm or 7.15pm evening & coming 9.50am or 10.00am every day.
Hi ramya, we have attendance policy ie we allowed 2 lates per month for third late it will be consider as 1/2day. this 1/2day will be deducted in their leave if available orelse it will be consider as LOP.
Kindly give me good solution for this case.

Place a warning letter to him with reference for last 7 days late time & Co. Policy. You are free to deduct his salary for every 3rd late coming. don't adjust leave against these late coming.

Hi,
This is known fact that most employees come late to work, due to various reasons (as pointed out in earlier messages). The best way to tackle late comings to any of the employee is to give him additional responsibilities and make him accountable for that. i.e., politely ask him to track the late comings of the all employees, Initiate daily team huddles at the beginning of the day and assign that person to organize the same and many more in such a way.
Its not necessary that he would not come late however when he/she is given such responsibilities, they tend to set themselves as an example and go beyond expectation. Trust me this will work.
Thanks,

Hi,
Kindly
- Try to explain him how it is affecting the work culture !!! (OR)
- Escalate the issue to his reporting authority.(OR)
- Send a MEMO for explanation. (OR)
- As per the policy , kindly deduct the leave/LOP (Make it 1 LOP for 3 late comings) without further discussions.

You have to check individually who are the person coming late .Whether their leaving office on time or they are going late and what is the genuine reason for the same. For such category of staff you have to be little flexible.Rest those who are coming late regularly you may initiate disciplinary action as suggested by the other friends. In our company we are following rules:
"grace period of 15 minutes only. Late comers reporting to duty after 15 minutes thrice in a month shall be considered one day’s loss of pay or on day’s leave in lieu thereof."
