Dear members on one of the wa groups of hr administrator of the groups has raised a topic for discussion. today s topic is on decisionmaking. he has asked the following questions: should decisions pertaining to organization and employees be taken arbitrarily or judiciously? what would be the implications or benefits if decisions are taken arbitrarily? i have given replies to the questions. these are as below: dear rajaram the replies to your questions are as below: introduction: factors that limit the decision making process are as below: a inadequate information b time and constraints on amount of information that can be gathered. c perception of decision makers about relative importance of data. d human memory. e calculating capacities associated with intelligence collective reply: while taking decisions there is no scope of taking arbitrary decisions. but then is there any person who admits readily that his/her decision was arbitrary? following questions distinguish between arbitrariness and judiciousness of a decision: f when the decision will be evaluated how will it be evaluated when it will be evaluated who will evaluate it and on what parameters will be evaluated. these are the most primary questions. those who consider these questions are the real leaders. g whether cost benefit analysis cba was done before taking a decision? if yes what were the parameters? h whether the culture of evaluation exists in the company? in many organisations leaders take just take decisions and then justify the decision. they do not maintain any records on the circumstances the decision was taken. this gives the room for evaluation. sometimes the objectives of the decision are defined vaguely. this vagueness always benefits decisionmaker to save his/her face. i if the decision involves financial investment then whether investment appraisal tools like irr arr npv or pbp was used while taking decision? if in the past such tool was used then does the leadership does evaluation after certain years as to what was projected irr and what is actual irr? j many times leadership show plain capriciousness. scientific decision making is always a casualty with this kind of leadership. k there are various types of biases that impact the decision making process? did leadership try making itself aware what are those biases and how to keep decision free from such biases? thanks dinesh divekar
Confuse in taking decision
Hi friends i m in trouble. actually i m confused in taking decision. rightnow i m working with mnc as executivehr . i have done a diploma in aviation hospitality . before joining this company i was planning to go for airlines job as an air . but i was selected by a mnc as a executive hr. but now my friends are advising me that i should also try for airlines what should i do should i apply in airlines . or should i apply for a hr in other companies. which industry is the best . please give me advice.
Sexual harassment in office
Respected sir with reference to the above mentioned sub i would like to state that one of my lower level staffs sexually tortured one of our staff by catching the private parts by taking the benefit of crowd at attendance punching time. is this case should be taken as a sexual harassment or attempt to rape & under which section we can remove him. the victim staff has requested to us by mail requesting "after taking a deep decision taking out any other resolution may give him the chance to act same. as it is the matter of my dignity". admin executive gujrat india
Help in taking decision on purchase order
Dear seniors a very goodmorning to all and a great day ahead. here i am in a dilema for taking a strong decision. below is my situation last week our company had a requirement of a software to a particular employee. i collected a number of good quotes from the vendors and finalized the order from a particular vendor after getting confirmation from management. also i send to the vendor a confirmed purchase order . the vendor now says that the amount mentioned was changed on last night and the new price would be rs 300/ extra. my question is is it possible to change the price in the finalysed quote by the vendor. if it is acceptable is that good to talk with my management regrading new price? can i argue with the vendor for getting the product with the earlier mentioned price? what would be the good decision on this. i have no problem in communicating this to management but i should have a strong point to argue. what would be your attitude on this type of issues. i know that this is not the function of hr. i believe hr can do something on this part. expecting your valuable inputs regards soja oliver dev web servicesi pvt ltd
Career decision
I am a person who was good in hr at college could relate to the function but didnt take it up as a career. iam in marketing now and whereever i go peope strongly recommend me to take up hr and told me that i would be suitable for it but i think hr also involves numbers and i freak at the thought of it i also dont find myself to be a disciplined person a quality that i think is essential in hr i need advice in taking a decision
Pl. help in taking a decision for change in career
Dear members i got an offer from a psu which is a govt of india enterprise named as npcc national project construction corporation ltd. at present i am working with a mnc firm. if i joined the psu i shall be joining on less salary of rs. 8k per month in comparision to my present in hand salary & also to relocate from present location where i am having my own house. the only charm to join the psu is the designation job profile & after all its a govt job. may be in long run it can be beneficial for me. pl. help & send the advantages & disadvantages in joining psu in comparision of mnc so that it can help me a lot in taking a right decision. requested to send the details at the earliest. regards
