Hello there, our company is a Software Development company based on Bangalore. We are planning to start night shift from 8.30 PM to 5.30 AM. I have few questions, kindly clear me.
1. What are the safety norms to be followed while operating night shifts?
2. In case of appointing girls in the night shift, what are the safety norms?
3. As our operations are in Bangalore, do we need to inform local police / do we need to get any proper approval for it?
Please clear me.

Please consider the following:
  1. Arrange for pick up and drop . Incase the pick up or drop is after 8.30 and before 5.00 am , please arrange for door-to-door drop.
  2. Arrange for a lady leader in every shift you have bothe females and males employee reporting.
  3. Incase there is a cab which have all lady employees are rostered , or a lady employee to get the first pick up or the last drop , arrange for a security gaurd for every such cab.
  4. No one leaves the Office premises after 8.30 pm without the company vehicle . Incase of an emergency , please ensure the employee is accompanied by a team member and the Reportingader approves it .
  5. Arrange for food and refreshments in the cafeteria .
  6. Arrange for a lady janitor in the wash room during the night shift . If it is not possible , ensure the cleaning team have strict instruction of the ladies wash rooms
  7. Leave all the emergency numbers with your employees .

Please check the Shops and Establishment Act Registration. The organization must have been registered under software company working 24/7 . When you inform the security vendor about the shift change , please check with them as they would follow a standard proceudre of filling a form with details about the workforce and have procedures where they would inform certain Government official . Please do keep all the emergency number in the intranet and notice board , in full view to the employees.
