I have, and I know how horrible that feels.
Some days you wake up feeling miserable for no particular reason….
These days, you look out the window & you see gloomy clouds, you just cant help feeling blue yourself.
And then there is work, the boss , payments to be made etc, etc..
Wow , lots of things to be gloomy about.
‘Hang on! Amruth, you’re supposed to be the NLP guy who lifts peoples’ moods, not bring themdown.’ you say
Now what are your options on a day like that? Let’s see now;
Go back to sleep
Drag yourself thru the day , hoping it will end.
Share your blues with others .and make them blue too.
Snap & shout at others, generally act like a grouch.
All of which are not exactly motivating.
Over the years, I’ve been working on my NLP skills & have developed ‘The 3 questions technique™ ‘ that can ‘INSTANTLY transform your moods and lift you up.
Want to give it a try? OK , here goes……
The next time you catch yourself feeling blue, irritated or generally bad for no particular reason ask yourself these three questions:
Q1: Is what I am thinking useful to me? ( the answer will be an obvious ‘no’)
Q2: What would I rather think of ?( use wild imagination to answer this )
Q3: What simple action can I do right now , that will make that ( the answer to Q2) a reality?
For example: Suppose you are feeling worried about your upcoming meeting with the boss/client tomorrow. Let’s try ‘The 3 questions technique™..
Q1: Is my worry useful to me?
A: Useful?? You’ve got to be kidding! It is killing me!! NLP says ,’ Energy flows where attention goes.’ Whatever you think of constantly, becomes stronger in your mind. You don’t want your worry to become stronger, isn’t it?
Q2: What would I rather think of ?
A: OK, using wild imagination to answer this, let me think that I’m the boss & he (the real boss) is feeling worried of meeting me…..NAH , too crazy.
Or… I’m meeting Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt and am eager to meet them ……….still too crazy.
OK, how about, ‘whatever the meeting is about , somehow it will all turn out great & me & the boss will leave the meeting room smiling
Sounds OK.. ( Although - if you ask me – I’d have thought about the Angelina Jolie option JJ ..
Now for question 3 .
Q3:.What simple action can I do right now, that will make that (me & the boss smiling) a reality?
A: Think of any thing, anything you can do right now ………like a small action or task that could help your meeting become a success & do it now.
And how long does all this take? 3 to 5 minutes at best.
