Hi there,

In order to know what is the training and development requirement of your organization you need to do the following:

Method No 1

Develop questionnaire to find out what are the departmental overall training requirement, you need to divide your questionnaire into three areas

What are the academic requirement of the department,

What are the technical training requirement of the department,

What are the soft skill training requirement of the department.

This is done on a managerial level. However you can also do the same on individual level to find out within in the department what are the training requirement to include the same criteria mention above academic, technical & soft skills requirement on an individual levels

Method NO 2

You might even look into the employees job descriptions and look into their competences required by the job and competencies which are available with employees and conduct a gap analysis for what is called competence mapping this method is more detailed which will help you tackle the training & development issue to the details.

But for now since you’re a starter in training and development start with the first method which is generic i.e. training and development questionnaire and with time you can slowly use the second method.

If you need help in developing questionnaires for your organization to use for your training & development project do not hesitate to contact me.

Hi Karthik,
To decide upon what trainings need to be conducted you need to find out about those areas where the employees are falling short. For eg : their communication skills are not up the mark, or their grooming standards are not as per the company norms, Client interaction etc. Your organisation being a Construction company you might need to work on their Interpersonal Skills or Motivation & Team Building etc.
I think a small questionnaire answered by the employees would help you to make a decision.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi kartik
Well as your company is into construction you could give training to all for
Safety and occupational hazards and First aid for the workers, site officers and supervisors.
For the corporate office you can maybe give them training on personality development
For the sales staff some marketing training can be provided to them so that they can improve with their sales
Vendor management (HR and Marketing)
These ideas were just on top of my head…you will definitely come up with more as you will see what the employees or rather what the clients want, what the employees want and what the management / owner of the company wants…. This gap can be filled by training
All the best
