Dear All
Kindly suggest...... I am working with distribution house as in operations having total staff of 20. From last few weeks my boss attitude become rude to me, he wants me to fill the place where my co-worker is not present. He always arguing that "YOU ARE AN OVER ALL INCHARGE AND IF SOMEONE IS NOT THERE YOU HAVE TO WORK ON HIS PLACE TOO".
Now please suggest what would be my reactions eventhough I am doing their work too, but he is not satisfied and always on complain mood and being rude with me.
Yesterday I got fed up and today I am on leave.
Please suggest me wht to do now???

Options:
1) Get another Job but dont quit before you have finally found one. Importantly, if others can be absent, so can you too (how about having malaria for 10-15 days and use them for finding a better job as a common practice).
2) Keep yourself busy (or pretend to be so busy) so that you hardly have the time to work for a replacement.
2) Act Blind, Deaf & Dumb to all his remarks
3) Try the impossible & believe in miracles that you will make him realize that its just not your job of doing other peoples work to perfection and you can only do it on ad-hoc basis.
Being an HR myself, I would say "People dont leave Companies, They Leave Bad Bosses".....rgrds

Be positive, I think this is a great opportunity for you to learn all aspects of your business activities and tasks. When your boss says, you are in charge of all, which means boss has lot of faith, confidence and trust in you. You should grab the opportunity and do as much as you can. It will pay you in long term. On the otherside, if it is inviting excessive stress ( physical/mental) which can affect the quality of your work, please talk to your boss about it. Also talk to your boss that you should be compensated for extra time you spend ( over time ) etc. If you really can not manage it , look for options.

Being incharge of something in the absence of others is good in one way that you learn new things. Other than your routine work, you try something new. But the way it is handed over to you is very important to be observed. if it is thrusted on you just becasue your Boss wants the work to be completed and does not care about the absentees who caused this for you, then you will have to discuss with your manager.
Try telling him that you are overloaded, if no response from him, then take it to next higher authority.But ensure that the work flow is not affected in these transactions. So that management would appreciate you and would advice your RM not to overload you and also may recommend good ratings on PErformance appraisal.

Dear Kanchi,
I do agree with 2 of the respondents that you have a challenge and this challenge is a way of learning different areas and look at the business in a more wider way.
Looks like your superior is thrusting the work to you. Would suggest that you confront your manager and understand what he is looking from you and accordingly put action items for your self.
You can also have a team meeting with your department to get to know their leave plan for next 3 months and accordingly plan who will back up whom during those absence times.

I suggest not to make any hasty decision. option of finding another job is always available with you however before you quit try to speak to your boss and tell him that your your job is to handle operations only , doing someone else job for a day or two is okay but you would not be able to give ur 100% in ur job. and moreover it is not your area of expertise and he should not expect perfection.Tell him in this kind of situation you would not be able to continue for long. this might change his reaction and might not ask you to do other's task.

I dont know whether u r boss is talking in an attitude way, but surely on side, being the inchrage of operations, he is right. Please try to understand that he has given you total responsibility of handling the team and thus, the results whether positive or negative would be on your shoulders. U shud also understand that you are working within a small group, wherein team efforts and synergies are a must. Try to first of all, know why u r boss is talking like that, is there any problem reg. the business? Then accordingly you chalk out your role and how you can make the things happen for him. I surely think that you can solve these issues with your maturity rather than thinking in a negative way and taking some wrong step which might hinder your career. Thnx

We understand you are in the difficult situation, but, at the same time opting for the impulsive decision of finding another job will not be good. Furthermore, if there is a necessity to take every responsibility on the shoulders then endeavour to prove yourself as a multitasking individual which will provide you new learning and will enhance your skill as well.
Moreover, Kanchi, we perceive you should sit with your boss and communicate with him about your potential and make him realize that you are overburden with work, still you are trying to manage everything smoothly. And if any error is happening its not due to lack of knowledge rather it is the human error happening due to lots of management and provide him the assurance that you will manage everything flawlessly. Kanchi, may be your boss is also frustrated with the absenteeism so, exhibit yourself to be maturer and don't take leaves as this is a way of running from circumstances.

If I were in your place, I would take this opportunity of gaining respect from my boss, and responding to his desire.
I am sorry, but the attitude that you are expressing is one that the organization can do without.
