Hello All,

I'm working in the IT industry in India. On 1st July 2010, I joined a new organization. My last working date with my past employer was 28th June 2010. All formalities with my past employer were completed except for the final settlement and the relieving letter.

A week later, on 8th July 2010, I received the relieving letter and a cheque for the final settlement. My last salary receipt (June 2010) correctly mentioned the number of working days as 28 (28th June being my last working day), whereas the relieving letter has an incorrect relieving date of 26th June 2010.

I brought this discrepancy to the attention of the HR department at my previous employer, but there has been no response even after a few reminders. The HR department at my new organization accepted the same relieving letter.

If I keep the same relieving letter without any changes, will it cause any issues in the future? Experts, please comment/advise.

In principle, HR should correct their records, but no one bothers with relieving and joining dates until your next employer questions your performance, casting doubt on your experience and qualifications. Only then will your employer verify the credibility of your certificates. Errors of one day or two days can be understandable.

When I submitted my resignation letter to the 1st Organization, I mentioned that my joining date at the 2nd organization would be 21/05/2012. Accordingly, I joined the 2nd organization on 21/05/2012. However, now that I am attempting to join the 3rd organization, they have questioned me about the Last Working Day (LWD) mentioned in my relieving letter from the 1st organization, which is also dated 21/05/2012 - a fact I have only just realized. They have requested me to obtain a corrected letter or email from my 1st organization. Unfortunately, the 1st organization has informed me that they will not provide anything in writing. I would appreciate any suggestions on what can be done in this situation, especially considering that the 1st organization has denied any fault and is unwilling to assist in any way.

Hi,

I am Balaji, currently employed at WIPRO since 16th March 2016. My last official working day at my previous company was 15th March 2016, but they included compensatory offs until 22nd March 2016 in my records. Now, my previous company is issuing me an experience letter dated up to 22nd March 2016 with an explanation. Will this cause any issues for me in the future? Please advise on this matter. I am eagerly awaiting your response.

Thank you.
