Dear All,
I'm working in a manufacturing industry as a HR and we use to recruit marketing guys. The problem is, they are not sticking with us for a long time ie., the attrition ratio is high.
Kindly suggest me, how to retain a marketing guy or how to recruit a marketing guy with good consistent level.
According to me the main reason is,
Tougher Product - Cant able to promote easily(Solar product)
Waiting for my seniors reply and currently having opening for Trichy location(Marketing Manager), kindly refer any of your friends.

I would like to point out and want to clarify do you marketing guy even need to sell the product. The reason is marketing and sales are different but these days companies they treat both as same.
If the person is just doing the promotional activity then see if he is getting proper facilities for promoting the product.
Check if the sales department , channel partners , pre sales team etc all giving proper feedback and market information?
The salary the sales person gets if lower then Marketing guy then there will be a conflict of sales and marketing team , sales will never give proper response to the Marketing person as he will also want the person to get kicked away from the organization.
If you want to have good marketing guy see his salary must be less the sales personal. Sales guy need to be dependent to marketing guy as some pre sales ( lead generation activity )must be assigned to Marketing Guy. The targets assigned to marketing should be passed to sales person through marketing guy. sales person should be given the right to question marketing guy for getting leads and sending mailers to channel partners , clients etc through marketing on behalf of sales person.
Both should be dependent on each other. But in no way salary must be higher to marketing as marketing job can be done in house only but sales need to be field work.

I would like to get the complete JD of the requirements so that I can pass it in my network and mean time we can discuss about the terms and conditions.

Do you provide full fleged training to your Marketing guys before actually sending them to Market. At the same time, Did you find out what exactly is the reason for their resignations.

We are providing sufficient training to them.
Would like to know, what can be the minimum breathing period for a marketing guy.
We are not having different dept, like sales and marketing and also this is a developing firm and i'm the 1st HR over here.
Recently i have recruited three marketing guys, one for Chennai and other two for ROT. Would like to know whether they will be sticking with us or not. Even though i have recruited all those, with my full effort.
If they leave, it makes me feel guilty like, i havent recruited any good candidate.

Good Package is Fuel for sales guy, if they get better fuel from other source they will not work with you.
So they must get their reimbursements on time else a conflict will arise with A/C or HR dept & Sales department. Most of us ignore this situation and thing paying salary on time is sufficient.

Training is important for all employees but it must be found out where the sales guy is facing the problem.The sales guys whom they are reporting must have a friendly relation else they will never tell their problems .If personal problem get mixed with professional and vice verse , the employee will not be able to manage any thing and productivity will go down. when performance level is zero again management will treat the person as useless for the job and kicked away from the organization.
Thus it is the HR who should be more as a friend to the employees then a office colleague. Let them discuss their problems, if you can give them counseling ideas , motivate them the staff will be retained in the company.
Arrange for a meeting or general discussion ( play) in a week or in a month ( may even be for 2 hours)where all the employees sit together and exchange their views. This way they will even get mixed with each other. If possible do check even the management can participate sometime.
The sales guys should get proper support from their seniors and product knowledge.
