Dear Nandini,

Hello, you have raised a very ineresting issue "How to motivate workers to increase production..."

I m also working as a team leader and so many times i have faced this problem of non cooperation from the field workers... Now a days we have adopted a policy of Not to force any one to do anything instead we come up with ideas to refresh their minds... such as gathering all of them for a motivational movie, celebrating Birthdays by the way of Party or greeting them through calls or sms. Not only that by raising new ideas day after another keeps your workers alive and away from boredom. Involve them in some types of decisions, take their advice, thanks them. Declare Man of the month. award them. love them.... This all depends how friendly you are with your workers and how much love your business instead of Money. Money will follow and not to care for it. Only thing is matters that your workers should have faith in you and all should be united and want work for the Company... Sometimes we want to grab a success lonely and want to share a failure. May be this all will help you. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!

One way to encourage workman is by introducing Employee Suggestion and Reward Scheme, which will create miracle in your workplace from workman to Management everyone will be encouraged, empowered and enlighten. Result into increase in Productivity, Quality Cost Safety, Delivery & Moral ( PQCSDM ). By Rewarding the idea , Hence you will not only encourage them to participate but it will create a long term impact on the overall culture in the organisation.

Dear Nandini
Speak to the workers
Inform them the ojectives
Inform them the benefits
Ask them to suggest action plans.
Involve them.
Set the target.
Observe their work output & inform them the degree of deviation.
Take stringent decision if required.
While conversing with employees follow the basics of good leadership.
Lastly.... Do not compromise with descipline.

As most others have expressed here, it is hard to give a generic solution. However, here are few things you could do:
1. Have effective measurements of performance and Communicate them clearly (results are usually based on what is measured)
2. Conduct team building activities to encourage team work
3. Introduce reward programmes - can be variety of them...some of them on spot recognitions, and recognitions at formal meetings. Plan budget for these.

Dear Nandini,
I appreciate what the members have suggested you in above.
The other important thing is - You need to show them what can be produced & what they are actually producing.
This you can do by conducting a time study of each operation & make a comparison of what can be produced & what is actually produced.
You must share this comparison in your meetings & then try to understand their issues in meeting these targets.
Definitely you need to workout on Safety / motivation / welfare / recognition / Suggestions etc.. & apart from it need to develop a culture which must be driven from Top Management.
My Experience is that shop floor associates observe each & every employee & wastage of time & money by Management members catch their attention. So there must be discipline at all levels in the organisation.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Nandini,
Identify the gaps, arrange for a meeting either individually or as a team. Find out the root cause and then start working on motivational techniques. Without understanding the problem, what ever motivations provided will not help. It is like identifying the disease and treating it.

Hi Nandini,
1. You need to arrange a board where you can chalk down the target that you wish that your employee needs to achieve & display it to the areas where employee work.
2. Then amongst all who has performed well should be displayed as Star employee of the month(or by giving some kind of gift, etc)
3. Steps should also be taken to increase internal competition which will enable employees to improve there performance.
