Hi John

Doing Sap would give you an added advantage if you plan to apply / seek job in a company which has implemented SAP in their organisation.

The fact is that very few companies have actually adopted SAP in the organisation [though most of them are big and are worth working for]. So if you are seeking for a job in this particular organisations, you may have preference over the other candidates..

But the important issue here is that the Management generally picks up the person you is excellent in his basic skills [HR=Recruiting/Appraisals/Training etc] Only when they are faced with a dillema of selecting one out of two or more equally good candidates, that such additional qualifications such as SAP plays an role...

Otherwise, once you join the company, they would give you training on using the applications, which are quite easy for the end user, as they are basically designed keeping in mind an average employee. In case you are planning for a core HR job, SAP may give you an advantage, but it may not be worth the amount of money that institutes charge, unless it gaurantees a good job in a good company.

Hi John,
Thanks for the query.
If you are looking for SAP HR, i dont think so Technical knowledge is must. But I would always suggest the functional knowledge of SAP package is going to be more useful.
