Dear all,
I Somehow feel that this would be an interesting topic to have a discussion.
If you are interviewing a candidate or incase of any general discussion over a candidate or in referrence check of a candidate, many a times you will come to hear EMOTIONAL personality as a weakness.
So, being EMOTIONAL or posessing EMOTIONAL petrsonality is an weakness??? Basically, what are advantages and disadvantages of an EMOTIONAL charectered person in his profession??
Now, the bottom line is, If a candidate that is emotional is in HR, can he do well or would it be required for him to change this personality of his/her?? Again, what would be his advantages and disadvantages in his profession, I mean as a HR professional??
Please do post you views, comments and suggestion on this post.
Regards,
Kiran.

Hi Kiran ,
Usually what happens is when we ask a resource they weakness or strength most of time they would not know the answer and they land up telling that they are emotional .....
Who is not emotional every one is emotional it is just how you utlise it ,if i am a emotional person than i will get attached to my work , company which is very good but on other hand it should not the other way not able to take the feedback from others etc ...
And we HR can change the personality a person rather we should be able to ultise the personality of a person which favours company as well as the individual .

hi
Kiran
first u should coordinate with, cool them and findout that is their actual problem. tell him/her. this Emotional personlity persons should manage by HR only.
first u agree with them it is right. after tell them what they have done mistaken then they are thinking. oh it is right.
Jyothi who is given suggestion is also nice.

Dear Ms Kiran,
Human has emotions whether he/she shows or not. Right emotion at right time is always beneficial to work if it is otherwise to be converted into dedication if not found in right direction. Now the art of turning emotion into dedication lies with the person who is boss or taking & giving/assigning the task to the candidate. Training solves most of such problems arising out of emotional outburst but some time some candidates never cooperate to come out of emotional disbalances and HR people become helpless. Patience and pertinence alongwith true compassion will be of some help .
I Hope this may reveal beyonds the limits of words.

Hi Kiran,
I would take this trait of being emotional as strength for an HR professional because in our kind of a profession we are required to understand individuals of different kind...and we can only have empathy for them if we are emotional.
Ofcourse, by being emotional i mean "Rationally Emotional" where in we can also look at things from the other persons point of view...and not only stick to our point because of the emotional attachment..
Let me know what you guys feel....

Shraddha.

Dear Shradda,
yeas a very valid point from you. AGREED. But, somehow I feel that it is only one side of coin. The other side is, what if the other person is trying to take advantage of your emotional personality??
Jyoti, Nagendra, KH Vyas, thanks much for your inputs.
Actually, I am looking for inputs on "What would be the advantages and disadvntages of a HR professional that is emotional??"
and Mr. Vyas, This is Kiran (Male) :) .
Looking forward for more inputs on this discussion.

Hello ,
I have been reading a lot abt the emotional factor of an HR professional.Emotions are basically feelings and it reflects a lot on your pesonality in terms of relationship handling, reacting ,etc.
Being emotional necessarily doesont mean being touchy or ending up accepting the opposite person's view point or being angry etc.
I believe amongst the whole lot of emotions one has to choose as to what emotion plays best in his or her role.
Emotions are present in every living being let alone humans .
I personally feel as an HR person one should be highly empathetic to understand the opposite persons thought process n followed by that he should be able to negotiate on such emtioanally resulted conversations,
Having learnt pyschology in college for two years I think I can go on and on therefore I maintain my thoughts till here .
Kindly comment .

Hi Kiran,
Like we all say emotions are a part of us... I think the advantage of Being emotional is that you can always put urself in the resource's shoes and understand the point he or she is trying to share.. Moreover we need to be emotional becoz we r in HR. If we are like cold blooded sort of people how will the employees come and share their problems with us.. It would be worse right! Another advantage would be we need to be open in our occupation so that it would be easy to interact with people of different attitude and thinking.
But again the disadvantage of being emotional, is that we tend to be attached to our employees so much that if that person does a mistake , we would not be able to take the right action becoz of feelings like " I feel bad iam doing this.. or guilty thing" since we r attached to the resources..
If i have any more extra points i shall let you know.

Dear Mr Kiran,
Emotional Personality cannot be considered as weakness provided if a person knows to balance the situation.
Advantages:
can aim for perfection / excellence
Can achieve the career / personal goals
can enter into other shoes and walk
Disadvantages:
If a person completely knows well when to show / balance the emotions, then there will be less disadvantages.
