HRX..

How good are you with the Excel or Access?

These applications are very user friendly, So what you will do now is, see where the data of all your employees are manintained, if it is in excel, try bridging it to Access or vice versa...

Mine is a small set-up, since I earlier worked in the BIG 4, i feel i should bring my current organisation too to its level, hence I keep recalling what new things they did and i do the same here, just that i know the concept , but have to build it ..bulding something takes time..thus u kill time hence would not feel bored..

Collect childhood photographs of your staff, scan them & send one out each day or week depending on the staff strength & ask them to guess it, the person replying first wins & you can maintain a data sheet for this & give away "most right answers" award on the last day of each month.

Run a survey in the office, asking what people like doing when they are bored or without a task, once you get the answers ..try doing that answer you liked the most :-)

Orelse..walk-up to your stair ways & climb the last 3 stairs in arythmic fashion, people will notice you & ask you why you are doing it, tell them it stimulates the brain, which improves in quality out-put which the boss will appreciate & the Hr pays well.. I bet you will have some ppl join you n its gonna eb fun doing a crack job asa team..& if your boss sees it, tell him its a TEAM BUILDING initative from your end :D just kidding..

Keep smiling...ahhahah

Hi HRX,
If you really don't have much to do at your company, you might as well be your nieghbour's envy..
I understand that giving some training sessions to your employees or starting new appraisal systems are not what you are thinking off... Why disturb anything when everything seems to go fine....
Why don't you do some short term specialised courses... That would help you in increasing your knowledge base....

Hi HRX,

Try some of the following, might create some stir in the employees

1. Start a inhouse E-magazine: Post a E-mag to all the employees every week-end with features such as
  • a. Know your colleague

Make a Quesstionare for employee and ask one employee each week to answer the same, post it on the magazine. The questionnaire should generally be like the one we see for movie stars i.e. your favorite restaurant, what would you do if you are CEO of our company, What is you idea of holiday etc

    b. Announce training Programmes :

You can announce inhouse training programs or can also include the once that you think might benefit your employees, even if the company is not sponsoring it

    c. Announce Dates

Announce Birth Dates / Anniversaries etc with Photographs of the employees

    4. Party Pics

Post in some Party pics of you employees [and their children / spouse]birthday party / anniversaries

You can do lot more with a AE-mag, which would keep the employees waiting for the next issue... Without much addition to cost, other then time you need to spend for compiling and drafting.. And you said that you have lot of time to spare..

2. Organise Competitions
  • a. Slogan Writing Competition

    b. Debates of current issues

Hi HRX
Some more tips
1. Arrange 'SALE' of major brands in you cafetoria. The nearby dealer would be more than happy to help you...
2. Organise and Participate in Social activity such as Providing Councelling Clinics for MBA / Engineering Students. The students might benefit if they get guidance from Industry Executives.
3. Organize Quarterly Parties (Can be expensive)
4. Ask and Assist employees in taking part in National Competitions (Tata just organised one open for all the companies of India).
5. Organize Grooming Training / Soft Skills Training
If you are already doing all these stuff at your place... Please call me... I would be more than happy joining your company :D :D :D :D
