Contractors are asked to quote rate for providing
certain services which are taxable in nature.Out of many ,some contractors charge service tax @10.30% on the quoted rate, where as others do not quote ,simply write not applicable in the tax column. My query is whether service tax will be added to the rate quoted by the contractor who simply write not applicable.

From India, Patna
service tax is chargeable on the gross value of services.
the service provider will charge the service tax from the client and it shall be over and above the charges quoted for the service.
If some contractor is not charging tax, it means either he is not liable to pay services tax or he has included the service tax amount in his charges.
Please confirm the status form the contractors not charging service tax as if it is explicitly mentioned in bill, you as a customer can claim the input tax credit for the same.
hope this would help you
Thanks & Regards,
Avika
