Recently the Parliament has passed the bill to amend ESI Act. This amendment removes the exemption of coverage of ESI to Trainees and Apprentices under the Standing Orders of a Company. Can any one inform whether this Amendment to the Act has been notified in the Gazette of Government of India? If so, what is the date of effect?

Hi!
after the amendment, the clause reads as follows:
" or any person engaged as as an apprentice, not being an apprentice engaged under the Apprentice Act, 1961 (52 of 1961) and includes such person engaged as apprentice whose training period is extended to any length of time"
This amendment, though passed by both the houses of Parliament, notification is yet to be issued to give effect to it. Once this comes in to force, the trainees engaged under the standing orders of the establishment also stand covered.
