I want your advice how to deal with trade unions in a below mentioned case or environment.

In the past, we have active trade union supported by B.M.S. Time passed, With the support of managemet, we have sacked their members (Still legal cases going on) a new union were framed and they are actually management friendly who knows only their welfare and the welfare of their relatives. They are always asking for the increments, not filling their leaves etc which means a lot of financial burden on the company.

I have started asking them to fill their leaves etc, the benefit that they are enjoying with past members are now restricted. Some of them started doing the same and now i became VILLAIN for them.

They are taking every opportunity, a single small mistake to bring to my manager notice. though my manager knows every thing.

In a recent case, an employee Mr.X has been caught carrying mobile on guest floor inspite of warned by deputy housekeeper to carry it. They have sent the guy to me and i have taken his written statement about the incident and he had written for the apology.

The same guys has been involved in lot of cases of absenteeism and misconducts.

I have asked him for a resignation to be written on other sheet only to scare him so that he will not involved in any misconduct and with taking loop of his officer to move out for a day.

I have taken this decision only in his favour, so that victim will not be punished further and teared his resignation.

Now the drama start, as my good will is not so good with the pesident and other union member, they are making so serious issue about the same. In front of my manager, they are saying that I have taken the resignation and all but I told every thing to my manager and not accepted this in front of them. They have no clue about the same where the paper is?

They are pressurizing the victim to say that I have taken his resignation. The same guy who is thanking me once not to issue a warning letter and let him go so easily is giving statement in front of them that I have taken his resignation for next misconduct if happens.

Once more person involved in this whole incident is a contract labour and speaking in favour me.

Would request you to suggest how to deal with these people who all are the thieves and opportunist, who on one day will be in Management side if we give them special increments, gifts, mattress etc, they will not think anything about the worker and second day they became employee friendly.

Your early responses will be highly appreciated.

Dear Mr. Ranjeet,

In any IR scenario there won't be any friends, the union and the members of the union will act differently. As you identified and spelt out whenever they get benefits they will be supporting the management and whenever they are refused they will raise issues.

The basic thing what you have to do is building the file against each and every person irrespective of their position, the mistake what you have done is to obtain resignation, you would have called for a domestic enquiry and issue show cause notices.

You should be professional, even they have submitted the paper willingly but once the union comes in to picture they will change their stand hence to avoid all these things you should enquiry and document the versions so it becomes legal and they cannot refuse. Even if the worker submits his resignation it will be diffcult for you to discontinue him becase the very next day the union will enter and say that you have taken by force hence pl follow the systems, in the begining it will be difficult but over a period of time it will become practice and will be easy to deal.

Though i have taken his resignation on other sheet, i have destroyed the same and their is no clue of such incident whther i have taken it or not.
Luk when u have union memers who all are fighting for workers welfare, than u have a repect for those leader but who just making their own benefits only, i dont beleive in such unionism. U should be honest. That person is still working with very next day in his department. They have no base outside this unit as well as among employees. the one thing is that in the past some corrupt people who have been sacked by the managemet becoz of indiscrepancies supporte these people. They dont work and these union people also not working. Now they have to do their full shifts that is the reason theya re cribing.
My question is only working with honesty in present world is a crime that one is doing.

Please come out with clarity. Your query can not be understood, because of the language used. Gist out your problems by specifying it. Too much of internal issues need not be highlighted. Make it short and simple to understand.
