I am very much keen on the Gen HR roles but i am not able to get into Generalist HR as most of my experience is into recruitment. Dear ,
If you want to start your career in Gen HR , you should start learning work of HR -ops like
Preparing Head Count, Joining Formalities , Performance management ,a good hand in excel -, Attendance , Salary etc ---
and after learning that you can show it in your CV and satisfy interviewer that you had handled these thing

Dear Shree,
Don't lose hope. While its true that organisations would prefer to have candidates with relevant work experience i.o working with freshers, it is also true that a candidate should have expertise in a particular domain, alongwith operational knowledge of others. You could try to liase with other fellow colleagues in your organisation, who deal with other aspects of HR. For eg: Resource management,Learning and Development, HR scorecards, Onboarding etc. Try to get hold of some knowledge of these and ask your superior to let you work on these as a project. Its important to know what the other HR team members are also doing, from organisational awareness as well as personal development point of view.
All the best!

hi
I think you can try and talk to your HR dept. and show them interest in HR ops. Start taking initiative, incase your org supports internal transfers or change in profile, it could help. Once you have atleast 6 months to a year exp. in HR Ops. It'll be easy.
Good Luck!

Dear coreshree,
First of all breath calm... Don't get tensed or nervous.
Again you said that you are working in a Retail firm. Were you handling recruitment alone? If you want to get into generalist role, remember that you would be considered only as a fresher in that role... Then you have to update your self in all core activities of an generalist HR.
As you are a member of this forum, you would easily get all the information of a generalist activities of a HR... Do think widely and implement it on action. Try to frame a plan of action. Still with doubts, post a private message..
Anyway All the Best!

Would like to ask all seniors if anybody is working with manpower consultant where they are dealing only in recruitment how can he/she approach the company if at all they have knowledge in HR ops???
Regards
Ajit
