Hi,
I have a question. As per Factories Act we have to provide 1 weekly off. Normal practice is to give one calender day off. But according to my information continuous 24 hours break shall be provided. If we provide break say from Saturday 2 pm to Sunday 2 pm is is acceptable?

Hi,
You mean to say that a person should start working in night shift to complete its working hours for a regular full day, when he comes after a break of 24 hrs at 2:00 pm. Please clarify.

Hi Shikha,
Its not like what your are thinking. Say factory works in general shift & on Saturday it works pre lunch say upto 2 pm & on Sunday it works post lunch i.e. 2 pm onwards thus ensuring 24 hrs continuous off.
Is it acceptable.

Dear one,
That is not accepted as if you are allowing anyone to work on saturday for no matter no of hours that means that employee has worked for saturday and if you will let him come on sunday at no matter shift timing then he is woking for the day of sunday.... so where is his weekly off day.
consider this to clear your query.

Dear Shrinkar, The Factories Act is candid that the worker has to have a holiday for a full day and day is defined as 24 hours starting from midnight. So the import of the statutory requirement is obvious.

Factory act specifies "whole day". even if an employee works for one hour in a particular day, you must consider that he has worked for that day.
