hi,
i can tell u how i do it with my company..
we have prepared a reference report which is objective type and during the joining formality time i handover the reference report to them and ask them 2 get it filled by their respective reference person whom they have mentioned after that we call up the person who has provided the reference to thank them for their time in filling up and clarify things if required say in case if they have mentioned excellent performance ask them for the instances and also same with negative quotes.

Hi mahalakshmi
Thanks for you suggestion
Sometimes the candidates give the refernce of the previously worked companies. in that case is it really feasible to call up in the past company to know about the candidate
please advice what to do in that case

Dear Hitesh,

You need not to do a reference check for any candidate who is just applying for job at your organization but one should do reference check of the candidate once he / she thr' with all the tecnical test and clears the all round of interview.

By my opinion the exact phase of referees check comes after technical /HR round of interview and before making an offer / actual joining.

I guess the correct source of getting information is past employer because from them you will be getting his CTC ( by that you can cross check what he has told you in HR round and can judge his integrity)/ an idea about his performance ( you will come to know wether he his a good team player or not)/his behavior towards others ( and very important his Attitude).

Reference check is very important and it really helps you to reach to the decision of hiring a candidate or not?

In my career I have met an incidences where earlier employer directly told that please do not hire him he has stolen PC parts from our office.

Hope the above lines will prove you helpful  .

Dear Mona
Thank you for sharing the information. But still i have one query, sometimes due to urgent requitrement for any position it become very necessary to make offer to the selecetd candidate within a few days without leaving much time for reference check. will it be feasible enough to make reference check after the hiring in those cases?
please put up your comments
regards

Hii Hitesh,
Yes ofcourse. You can hire the person without getting the antecedents verified. What you need to do is to get the employment data form duly filled up and get it signed by the new joinee. Do make sure that there should be a "Declarartion" that " I hareby declare that the above information is true to the best of my knowledge and belief and that nothing has been concealed. If any time I have found to have concealed any information or given false details, my appointment shall be liable to be terminated without notice or compensation" Make sure to get this declaration duly signed. Now you can make him join and do the reference check later on but please dont issue the appointment letter till the time all the antecedents are verified.
