Hi Sheela

You have posted a classic dilemma for most HR people. Motivating the staff in any case is a challenge, and to motivate ‘people on the bench’ is even more challenging. However, I am taking the liberty of sharing a few thoughts in the hope that some of these may appeal to you and can be implemented by you. Some of these Suggestions would have cost implications for your corporate.

- Have 2-3 day outbound training programs on team building / creativity / leadership skills training etc.

- Have a couple of professional development courses / self development courses organized in house or in a venue outside the company. Ensure that the faculty is engaging, innovative and can bond with the participants.

- Organize a ‘Corporate Social Initiative’ outreach program. Get the participants to have a drive to raise funds, collect clothes, medicines, and utensils etc for distribution.

- Have visits to Orphanages / Old age Homes/ Prisons etc. with possibility of some form of cultural/ social activity to be performed by the participants.

- Have a few sessions on music appreciation/ movie appreciation/ book reading / poetry reading etc. A few well-known personalities from the city can be invited to moderate these or to give inputs on these.

- You can have a talent spotting session followed by getting a good theater personality/ director to put up a One act play etc with the bench strength being involved in it. This will be a great bonding exercise too.

I am sure, you can adapt my suggestions to come up with more ideas.

You are welcome to contact me for implementation of some of these suggestions.

Best Wishes and may you have a very motivated and enthusiastic team!!!

Jacob
