Hi Seniors,

I have worked with a consultantcy for 1yr.+,(along with my 1yr. dip. in IRPM) then after taking a long break, during which I completed my MBA (HRM) frm SCDL. Pune, I took up a job with a small consultancy at Gurgaon, now it is approx.5 months.
Now when i apply for openings in companies for Hr Executive(generalist, employee relations, post recruitment process etc.) ,I am getting no calls as they need exp.candidate.
I know I don't have exp. of working in a corporate but someone has to give a chance only then we can gain exp. too otherwise we will just be drifting frm one consultant to another without any sense of achivement.

Also I have worked with mnc clients on outsourcing assigments making their appointment letters, leave records, attendance, full & final , etc. yet I am getting no offers, WHY???

I know I can do it,so pls. get in touch with me......

In the meantime I am also open to freelance work for GENUINE Gurgaon based consultants, agencies etc.

Need help, really hit rock bottom now...

Hello Sanjali and Bhanu

I can sense a creeping frustration in your post. In my view, it is important for you to do an objective SWOT analysis for yourself. You might get some clues from that as to what kind of job openings you must target. Sometimes you get frustrated because you apply for all available jobs and the rejection list just gets longer and longer.

If you are getting interview calls but not clearing it, review the interviews and work out your strategies to ensure you dont foul up interviews.

It is equally important for you to pick up the right job profile or else you will get frustrated fast and start the job hunting process again.

Finally be thankful that you have a job as on date. There are thousands without a job and desperately seeking one. Be positive - keep searching and I am sure you will soon get the right break.

Best Wishes

Jacob

Hi
Thanks for suggesting us bt one thing I'd say that since I dint get the profile which i was looking for but soon i realised that i cant put my 100% effort in this profile till the time i am not confused about what i want. It s true that i'd joined thios position because i dint had any job at that time but now i am relising that i dint do the right thing.
I am loyal to the company and had told them about my intentions but still they are considering me as someone who will be in the organisation for a long period and i am not getting their strategy. I mean what they really want me to do?
Please help.

Let me begin with giving you my background. I have started career with "Recruitment consultancy" thereafter worked as HR Executive (Generalist) in a Telecom company; second largest player in telecom infrastructure business globally. I have done my PGD in HRM from Nirma Institute of Management.

Trust me, I know exactly what you are going through.. I have been in this situation before. Don't worry, It will take a lot time and energy but dont give up, keep on trying and you will get it for sure. another thing you need to understand and accept is, no matter how good you are at sourcing, joining formalities, exit formalities and other functions, still for corporates you know nothing...

Be practicle: There are better qualified people out in the market and employers are prone to chose them over you. we are not matured enough to consider competencies over skills, experience plays important role in developing competencies but it is not the only thing which develops comp.
The other aspect is that Company wants ready material and not a person who can get trained and start deliverying results afterwards. Corporates run business and not training institutes.. this is what it is at the back of the mind of hiring managers while selecting candidates.

The way ahead..!! YOU WILL NOT GET GENERALIST ROLE IN CORPORATES. find Recruitment role in corporate, think what recruitment process could be in companies as what you are doing is sourcing and not recruitment - this will give you a perspective :) recruitment is tracking open/closed positions with aeging/SLAs, anticipating manpower requirements, designing sources of talent pool and leveraging them to close positions, managing vendors and logistics (i.e consultant invoice approval/payment, multi vendor management), onboarding, induction/orientation (HR,Company, business), payroll inputs of new hires, and the list is endless... find/apply to positions like recruitment executive, recruitment specialist, analyst and so on.. DON'T EXPECT google, mircosoft, IBM to give you an offer. target small companies in sales/insurance/BPO/KPO sectors. once you are in, you need to find horizontal opportunities within and outside company by leveraging your additonal skills and highlighting it in resume. !!dont right long 3-4 page resume, till 6 years of exp your resume should be of about MAX 3 page!!

Contract employement is also a good option to get in really good organisation and learn things which you can leverage later on to get goo HR assignment.

HR profession is slower than sales... expect good money and life after at least 5-7 years of experience in good MNCs.

Final and most important; LUCK is nothing. you need to jump on to opportunity as quickly as you jump to a conclusion that we are not getting any calls from companies.

Stress buster: wirte a letter to god, i mean actually write it. open a blank word document, start with "dear god" and explain in detail in much DETAIL what you are going through and how badly you are being treated by god... I did this and it helped me a lot
