Dear All,
Am working with an IT company and are growing our operations now to different shifts of working. I am trying to collate some information about shift working - rules, essentials, allowance, meals, transport etc. are the wide areas we are looking to cover.
I request you to pl' share with me if you have some vital points for the same or any policy followed in your organization for shift working.
Regards,
Payal.

Dear Ms.Payal,

I don't have knowledge on IT industry but I have vast experience in manufacturing industry. I will provide the details on the same so that you can plan accordingly:

Normally there will be 4 shifts ie., General / 1st / 2nd / 3rd

8hrs is the total working hours, in the shifts normally the lunch break will be inclusive of 8 hrs or else you can have a over lap of 1/2 hr ie shifts normally be

1st - 6am to 2pm / 2nd - 2pm to 10pm/ 3rd 10pm to 6 am so you can call the employees 1/2 hr advance to the shift starting time, handing over may be completed and employees can leave at the schedule time.

Before completion of 5 hrs from the shift starting 1/2 hr break should be there normally that can be a lunch / dinner / tea and snacks time for night shift employees

You can not deploy female employees between 8pm to 6am until and unless your organization is exempted or obtained a special exemption from the concerned authority.

Transport, meals, tea and etc are to be on subsidized basis and if female employees are there then you have to make arrangement to pick up and drop between 8pm and 6am and a female supervisor should be there for the security of the female employees during the above time.

I believe this may be useful to you.

Thanks and regards - kameswarao
