Hello Everyone!
We are a technology company and we value our people.
Since most of our people spend around 50% of their waking hours in the company. Its only fair to make it a lively place. Music soothes me. I feel energetic and so I thought would my people like it.
So we thought can we try this on an experimental basis. The answer that I got was, yes, why not?
On the good side of things, it will improve morale, productivity, make people happier and more energetic.
Our company could certainly benefit from this.
Is it good for us to allow people in the offices to listen to music? What is your take on this?
I am Awaititng all your responses.
Regards,
Shyamali

hi,
It's best bcoz I had personaly experienced this
I was previously working in firm where in our dept we all where bacholors withing age range of 25-30 & one day we attached the speakers to the computer with prior permission. Surpsingly, the head concerned appreciated the working & improved efficiency of our dept & now there is central music system to entire office has established.
Employee also feel less stress for working more than office hours as the enviornment gets automatically free, comfortable & relaxing
keep it up it works

Hi!
Does any one have a policy or a set of guidelines on this?
Its ok on an adhoc basis. But I need to know all the positives and the negatives to know how will it work out in the long run.

Hi,
I am requesting senior members like sanjeev, rajat, Leo, Bala, Dr Mahanta, sid(CHR-cite moderator) to come up with their views on this.
But it amazes me that as yet none of them have an opinion on this issue.
No one has come up with the red flags for which I must watch out for.
I am extending a special thanks to my friend Yashswa.

SHYAMALI,
I think it is an useful motivational tool.
I WOULD SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING
-conduct a survey, initially every month, to get listeners' choice.
-play at an acceptable low volume.
-play a blend of instrumental plus others.
-watch people/s actions / reactions
etc
BEST OF LUCK

Hi Shyamali
I would like to add one thing. Plz... make a policy on the kind of music they can play. It should be light and soft.
May be one person can work while music is going on in background but at the same time other person would not like. It may not let him/her work.
So have a poll before implementing it :D

Hi Shyamali,
Though uninvited, I would appreciate your effort.
This is a real good initiative that you can take in your company.
Observation is very important in this, you have to notice people's reaction timely.
I read a survey report some time back, so I dont remember where I read it. It was mentioned in the report that Listening to music while working really have improved productivity and helps in reducing stress at work.
Music has a positive effect on our hearts, and so we feel relaxed.
There is a Yoga Centre(which does research also) in Haridwar, which is headed by Pharmacologist, they are doing a research on HOW GAYATRI MANTRA CAN BE A CURE FOR HEART PROBLEMS.
If they will prove that listening to Gayatri Mantra can make even 2 percent difference, they will do wonders.
Good initiative, all the best

Hi...
just a small input on this which came to mind...not only humans work better with music, there was a research some years ago where they found that even cows give more milk if they listen to music... :icon10:  :D

Music is really a good therapy as we have seen so many times that whenever we are in stress or feel tired music is sometimes we found the only tool which gives us real pleasure and make us feel comfortable in tough situations.
As a human being we are depend on the effective working of our mind and heart. Sometimes it has been observed that our mind thinks in a dirrerent direction and our heart will not allow us to go for the same. And mostly this type of situation create's problem to handle for everyone but sometimes when we listen to music it gives comfort to our mind and provide stability so that we can work and act possitively and take decisions.
So, it will be really good if you allow employess to go for the music but at the same time you have to make sure that the entertainment of one employee will not be disturbing to the other's.

And in my opinion, if there is a soft melodius music in the noon time after heavy lunch there are chances where workers /employers get or feel sleepy too.. so we have to look at the other angle also..bcos, if a person feels sleepy , there would be no much motivation to work..
